Clement fretless four with case

Sign in to disble this ad
Clement four string fretless with G&G tweed case - $750 including shipping in the lower 48. $725 if you pick up here in Portland.

Highly figured unlined birdseye maple fingerboard, maple neck and ash body refinished in gloss black. Neck is a J-width, 34" scale, and has some meat to it. I've currently got it strung with flatwound Chromes that have plenty of life in them. I'd describe the action as medium-low to low. Body has some typical signs of minor wear, overall is in very clean condition. I haven't weighed it, but it feels pretty dang light, probably in the 7 to 7.5 pound range.

This bass may be seen in it's original finish in the Clement bass gallery. It's number 61, and was made in 2007. Seymour Duncan Basslines single-coil pickups. After it was built, the original owner had an Aguilar OBP-2 two-band preamp installed and had the body refinished in gloss black. Sorry, I don't know who did the refinishing but it was a nice job. AFAIK, the neck is the original finish, very smooth, no bumps or dents. The control cavity is lined in copper and the electronics are neatly wired. Controls are volume/volume and a dual concentric pot for treble/bass boost/cut. Each volume control has an early plastic knob called Dakaware I got here on TB, very sharp. If buyer prefers, I can substitute two maple knobs for the volume knobs; I prefer the stealthy look of the Dakaware knobs better.

I'm selling it because I'm just not cut out for an unlined fretless. My playing is marginally more accurate with my lined Allen mouse!

This is a cash sale only, no trades. I'm not desperate to sell, so please no low-ball offers. And for the time being, I want to reserve this as a sale to the U.S. only. If a buyer wants it shipped to Alaska or Hawaii, I would consider that at an additional cost.

# 93 in the gallery is also very nice.
Is it possible to remove the finish? That unfinished ash looked nice.

What would be involved ? Cost ? Would it need to be sent back to Tom ?
Why did someone re-finish it ? Looked great before.

Some folks might choose to refinish it themselves. Cost would be very little. There have been many threads here on TB about refinishing. Other less industrious folks (myself included) might opt to have the original builder, or any other competent builder/refinisher refinish it.

I agree the original finish looked great. The black finish also looks great, it's just a different vibe. The original owner wanted it black.

For the right person, I think this is a give-away price on a Clement. For someone who wants a different finish, the price on this bass might qualify as merely a great price, and no longer a give-away price.

Saturday - still available!

Trades? I've got enough basses, don't want any more.

The only thing I'd like to try would be a Sansamp VT bass pedal. It'd be worth $100 in trade towards the Clement.
