Clevinger Opus Electric Upright Bass - 1500

Sign in to disble this ad
Clevinger Opus 4 string electric upright bass. Comes with stand and gig bag. Great for the traveling upright bassist. The following is a link to the five string version of this bass: CLEVINGER BASS | Custom Made Electric Upright Bass | 5 String Clevinger Opus. Replaced bridge and bridge pickup with David Gage Realist. I have the original bridge except it no longer works due to the great efforts of American Airlines. However, Martin Clevinger reported to fix the bridge pickup would cost between 450 - 650. However, in my opinion, the Realist makes the bass sound as good as the original pickup on it. The bass was purchased in 1998 and was recently set up by Johnson Strings Bass Shop in Waltham. The color of this bass is a nice golden honey with the upgraded flame maple top.

Would also consider a trade for a Pedulla Buzz bass.

I have very little experience with electric uprights. I did very briefly try an NS WAV some months back. I wasn't crazy about the tone and the fact that it was "frozen" in one place on the tripod stand, so I couldn't move around with it as I can with an acoustic doublebass.

Any comparisons in terms of tone/playability between this and the NS bass?

Scale length? What's the neck profile like?

Does this bass have "scaffolding" and and endpin that will let me relate to it physically as I would a normal doublebass?

How is the bowed tone?

Finally, do you have any more pics, or clips of the bass?

Thanks!

I have not played an NS so I do not know how they compare. The Opus is on an end pin so you would not have a problem moving it around. The bowed tone is pretty good, but I generally played pizz on it. Not sure what you mean by 'scaffolding'. I put up another pic but can send some more through to you.
