Conklin Jake Kot 5 Str Lined Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a custom Conklin with a Dragonwood body, Cocobolo fingerboard, 34" scale, 19mm string spacing. The speed ramp is most likely attached to the pickups with double-sided tape, so I'm pretty sure it can be removed.

Electronics include Piezo bridge-mounted pickup (MIDI-ready), coil taps on both pickups, three band EQ, active passive and mid selector. There is a three-way toggle for the piezo/magnetic blend. The low B string has a Hipshot drop tuner.

This a SUPER light weight bass and it has a great fretless sound.

There is only one, tiny ding in the whole bass-- a BB-sized dent to the left of the bridge that is very difficult to see. Aside from that it is in mint condition.

Only reason I am selling is because I don't play fretless much anymore and I've been moved into a smaller hobby room meaning I have to thin the herd. It has a great, low action and I've not found a better playing bass.

This instrument was a featured bass on the Conklin website for a year or so.

Includes Conklin double bass gig bag.

$1500 + $50 shipping, insured. Paypal accepted.

Tiny ding:

Meh, I was looking for cash-only, but I'll consider it. What do you have?

Working

Cool. Working on raising the funds for this, when you mentioned it is lightweight do you have a more exact number?
Been putting in 12 hour days at the car dealership and I owe myself something nice. By the way, as a former Elrick owner I love the avatar photo. Is this comparable in quality?

I have a Conklin fretless and I can say that Bill Conklin's quality is one of the top of the business. Bill has been building basses for many years.

Just don't take my word for it...check out the basses that John Turner has. He is a moderator here on TB and has one of the most incredible collection of Conklin basses.

On the weight, bathroom scale says 8lbs even, but I don't really trust the scale. It says the same thing about another bass I have which is a little heavier. I'm sure it is pretty close though. You'd be hard pressed to find a lighter 5 string and even most 4 strings are heavier. I figure the heavier bass was probably closer to 9lbs and the Conklin closer to 8lbs. But it's a bathroom scale, so accuracy isn't great.

Thanks for the avatar compliment. The build quality of the Conklin exceeds that of the Elrick, IMO. Both are awesome basses, but the Conklin is slightly more refined, I think.

All of a sudden there is a lot of interest in this bass. I promise to respond to all PMs shortly.

Conklin Jake Kot sold, pending payment.

J.Wolf, is that a Wood-N-Tronics in your avatar? It looks like my old W&T Chronos 5...

Thanks for the bump.

^^^ Yes it is. It is slightly better than the screaming deal I got on it about 3 years ago. IIRC, I paid about $1500 + shipping. And I've thoroughly enjoyed having it, so I've made out OK on this bass.

I don't recall where the W&T ended up. I did have it on here for sale a while back. They are excellent instruments, but are a bit of an acquired taste, for some.

The other Jake, Jake Kot told me that there is a a fairly long wait on Bill's basses since he is so booked up. And Bill doesn't compromise anything on his basses. Mine is absolutely flawless. So yes this was a rediculously screaming deal.
