Dark Star 1981/2 G&L L-1000, strung BEAD

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD.

Here's just a great bass, a 1981/2 G&L L-1000 with a Dark Star. Trans red over ash, ebony board. Strung BEAD.

Plenty of wear and dings, but the neck is great and she's a great player.

The L-1000 guts are gone, and so are the knobs. But the rest is there.

When I got it, the rout had been widened to fit a pair of Bart J pups. A stock MFD would have looked a little weird, so I simply carved the route a hair deeper and dropped in a Dark Star, which fit perfectly, and got the plastic from Jeannie's.

This was my main bass for a while, but I've now moved to a different axe for my BEAD needs. Plus, I need to raise some cake for another project, so I'm letting this one go.

$625 shipped via PayPal.

If the L-1000 guts are gone, do the current knobs do anything?

Well, yeah. There's a volume and a tone knob. The Pignose knob does nothing other than make me smile.

Yes, for sale only.

As for recordings, there are several, but they're all live video shots from my INXS tribute (www.inxstributeband.com) and the sound quality varies quite a bit by recording and the backline provided...

Hey duke,

Could you specify a video that you think gives a good example of the bass?

I have loved the clips I have heard of Darkstars and of L-1000 but they are unique together. My worry about buying it is if I didn't dig it, I wonder if I would be able to sell to someone else...know what I mean?

Also, do you have a standard nut or way to set it back up to standard EADG? Or would I have to get the setup changed myself?

Thanks!

I doubt you'll have a problem flipping it.
There's a rack of people chomping at the bit.
And the omg setting might be easy to replicate w the darkstar. And if you obo it.

@ krovx - I will have to look at the videos tonight or tomorrow, can't really hear anything where I am right now to tell which sounds better. But understand that this is set up like a one-pup Dark Star bass, the L -1000 circuitry was long gone when I got it. yes, you will have to re-set up this bass for EADG. The truss rod and saddle height and intonation were all adjusted. That said, I don't think I did anything to the nut other than shave a hair wider (not deeper) on the 4th string slot. The nut should be fine as-is for EADG, I think.

Again I have to apologize I thought he darkstar had two coils and I thought it would bear the omg mod easily but I can't think of a cooler bass to put a darkstar in.

Man, this is so cool.

Does it come with a case? How would describe the neck, more like a P or a J?
