If you are reading this you probably already know a little about these wonderful basses. They are hand built in Saskatoon Canada. All of the info can be found here: http://www.dingwallguitars.com/produ...afterburner-1/
This bass is in very good condition. It’s not new; it has been lovingly played and has the normal wear a main axe should have, but no abuse whatsoever. I can make detailed up close photos on request. This one has the FD3 pickups and BlueQube switch.
Modifications include a B string Hipshot de-tuner I ordered from Dingwall, I will include the original tuner. The maple neck heel has been painted black. Visually, I think this is an improvement over the naked look of the exposed maple block. If you disagree, it is easily reversed, strip it and sand to 4000 grit. Dunlop strap-locks were installed; receiver and strap locks will be included. Original Dingwall info brochure and tool kit are included. Fresh set of Dingwall Voodoo strings recently installed.
The ONLY reason I am selling is I recently acquired a Dingwall Z3 and will be spending the rest of my playing days exploring all the tones this bass generates. I will be more than happy if this AB1 doesn’t sell, I will probably have Sheldon make a fretless neck for it and keep it as a backup. All that being said, I reserve the right to come to my senses and delete this thread!
Ships insured, signature required, UPS Ground in a SKB Freedom case.
According to the 1/2/2008 Dingwall Retail price sheet with options listed the price would be $3,460.00 retail, $2,768.00 street price. I don't know what they sell for new now, but I'm sure it's gone up in 2-1/2 years.
Price is FIRM, and fair in my opinion. I know the economy is down and there are a lot of really good basses out there cheap that are not selling, but I refuse to give this one away, I'd rather keep it than be lowballed.
$1850.00 shipped CONUS, PayPal only.
Thanks for looking!

I'll leave it up here for a little while longer, but it's begging for Sheldon's Midas touch to transform it into a fretless with matching headstock!

I'm starting to fall in love, and I haven't even put my hands on one yet. | I just bought one and am looking for a second Dingwall. The AB1's are great basses and this is much cheaper than what I just paid for a new one and as one of your enabler TalkBass forum brethren it's my duty to encourage you to buy it before I loose focus and get another AB1.

Something I would do for someone after talking with them to make sure I have all their information, is offer a 3 day money back guarantee. Try it (gently) for 72 hours, if it ain't your thing, send it back for a refund minus shipping of course. I promise there is no learning curve to play these basses, some things are a little different, but five minutes with it you're there!

| | curiously looking back at what once was beautiful | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Oregon | | I've tried, owned and sold my share of basses over the years. The "WOW" factor on my AB1 puts it way ahead of the pack - the construction, design and overall performance really are that good. You just can't beat a good deal on a used AB1, IMHO.
Bump.

The thing I love about Dingwall for sale ads is that they're almost always for sale because the seller picked up another Dingwall. |

Can't you just take a butter knife, pry out the frets, fill the slots with plastic wood, and slather it with boat epoxy?
I hear that's how its done.
Seriously, are you getting a whole new neck or shipping the neck to Sheldon?
Should be a very cool fretless!

Converting a Dingwall to fretless is a fairly tedious job involving nut replacement and an entirely new setup. I'll try to find and post a thread I read quite a while ago, its either on here or on the DW forum. I have to send the entire bass, Sheldon doesn't give out step by step instructions on how he converts one, but the process is a little more complicated and the end result is a little more satisfactory than the butter knife and boat epoxy method
