Dingwall Afterburner I 5-string FS

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I thought this one was a keeper but I have been gigging regularly with my Thumb BO 5-string, which is also preferred by my current band. What sits at home for more than 6 mos. goes. Even so, one of the finest passive 5-stringers I have played and an outstanding B string.

In mint/like new condition. Comes with case and all case candy.

$1600 shipped CON US...not really interested in trades at the moment

The facts from the Dingwall web site:

She's mighty purrty! How hard is it to get used to those fanned frets?

If I may...

I have had no problems so far. Just got mine last week in a trade. The fan of the frets almost mimics the natural fanning of the fingers. The action is unreal on these things.

Indeed Riis and thanks..."your fingers know where to go" as I was told by Jong at Jive Sound when I was considering buying my Dingwall Super J...fanned frets takes no getting use to...they play with your perceptions but not your fingering...and it is always the topic of conversation at gigs...this bass needs to be played...

This is a great bass, don't be discouraged by the fanned frets. Takes all of 30 seconds, and you'll be wondering what the fuss is all about... Until you plug it in.

The price keeps going up on the street for these, if you're contemplating picking one up, now's as good a time as any.

This bass is just a under 2 years old. Descprition is as stated in the Dingwall link provided in my initial post for the AB I.

FD-1 pickups and bluEQube™ – Passive Mid-Contour Circuit

I presonally think the Dingwall AB I has among the best tones out there today for a passive bass.

Totally agree with you, the AB I has the best tone of any passive bass I've ever played. JEDI BASS was kind enough to let me try out his, my very first Dingwall. If this one is still around in a couple of weeks when the funds are better, I might pull the trigger on it.

Probably won't be here though, someone is bound to snatch it up, great looking bass!

My guess is that if it's only two years old, it has FD-3s. These are great basses, you can't beat the B-string and the fanned frets take very little time to get used to. The natural flame top is also one of my favorites.

Smallmouth, anyway to tell how the pickups maybe a FD-3s absent asking Sheldon with the serial number?

And the flame top has been lost on some...adds to the value...flame tops go for a higher price...thanks for it pointing out...

Well, if yours is only two years old, mine is a little older than that and has FD-3s. I also have a 2004 ABII that has FD-3s.

The majority of the ABIs I have seen have the flame top. They look good both with and without (but with is really nice! ).
