Dolan Custome short scale P/J

Sign in to disble this ad
$850 shipped CONUS

This is a smoking little bass. Mahogany body, maple neck with nice subtle birdseye figuring, rosewood board. I was told it has fender custom shop pickups. 31" scale. Weight is 8.8 lbs by the bathroom scale method.

Michael Dolan is a great luthier in Santa Rosa, CA. I would match this bass against any shortscale I have ever played. I got it in a trade a few years ago thinking I would flip it immediately. Fell in love with the shortscale vibe and the overall feel of the bass. Has always been strung with flats. I have just ordered a musicman 25th so I have to sell this and a Bongo 5 to pay the bill.

Pictures here:

Gigbag included.

No trades...I need the funds for the 25th

Paypal is easiest but postal money order works too.

If I had any spare cash, I'd hit it. Dolan does great work! I'm on my second Dolan-modded/finished bass now, and I would recommend his instruments and work to anyone.

Looks like a great bass. What is the nut width. Can you talk a little about how it sounds. thanks.

1 3/4" at the nut. The bass is punchy. Nice thonk, really cuts through the mix, but still has balls. I have never changed the strings. The flats do it for me and I have rounds on other basses. I suspect the tone would be full and versatile with rounds.

I guess a P/J sound but maybe a bit more "punch" because of the lower string tension from the short scale? I don't get too wrapped up in the physics...it just sounds cool.

I looked again at the photos I posted. The color is much closer to the pictures taken outside. The indoor pictures are taken with a flash. The bass isn't that red.

I also neglected to mention it is passive and the controls are VVT.

I have had Michael Dolan refinish my alembic and he just pulled the frets from my turner renaissance. Always great work. This is the only bass of his (built from top to bottom) that I have played. Really stellar construction. Feels good in your hands.

Free bump. Looks sweet. Don't know where you are in Sonoma County, but I'm tempted to come check it out (though my wife would kill me). Lemme know where you are, just for fun (post or pm). Good luck regardless. DM

Thanks for the offer Joe. I'm looking for cash on this one.

Maybe cash and a partial trade for some tasty effects pedals.
