SOLD!
As we all know, Fender just released a Duff McKagan Sig model that is a copy of the 80's Jazz Special that Duff used to play. Why buy the copy when you can have the REAL DEAL (that's what I am selling, this is a real 80's version)!?!?!? This is the same exact model that Duff Mckagan used to play with in GnR back in the day!
Serial number dates this particular one to being built between 1984 and 1987!!!
As you can see, my 80's Jazz Special is in exceptional condition for being +/- 20 years old. She has two significant upgrades (but is otherwise stock).
1 - Two USA EMG pickups. This is an active setup (9v battery in the control cavity). They really sound great! These pickups retail for close to $200 and they REALLY growl!
2 - Leo Quan Bad Ass II bridge. Black bridge with gold saddles (this combo really works on this bass, looks great). These sell for $70 or $80 online and add sustain. Nice upgrade!
The silver paint has a very slight greenish tint to it. The same color is also on the logo on the headstock. Speaking of the headstock, the headstock, neck and hardware blacked out from the factory. Looks VERY cool and unusual for a Fender.
I love how this "Jazz" has P and J pups, has a P body and a P neck (all done at the factory). Honestly, I'm not even sure why they call it a Jazz because the only thing Jazz about it is the bridge pickup... Build quality is exceptional (as you will find on most Japanese Fenders). This example is in excellent shape and hardly a ding on her. I've seen many stockers (with no upgrades and in worse shape) sell for $400 - $500. Let's start this at just $449 which is damn cheap considering the pickups retail for a couple hundred bucks and the bridge is another $80ish. I don't think this bass will be here long at this price. First to commit and puts up the cash, gets her (in other words, first come, first serv). Better hurry!
As a point of reference, here is one that was in worse shape that sold for $419 and mine has almost $300 in upgrades!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=007

This is not some flimsy, junk bag either. It is thick canvas, with very thick padding and lots of pockets. I think the bag retails for $130ish as I recall.

| | | | Quad, you always have the best stuff up for sale. This is on my list if my Spector sells. Best of luck, or should I hope you don't have luck selling so I can nab it...

How does the back of the neck feel? | I hope quad doesn't feel as though I'm stepping on toes, but I used to own a very similar model. Profile aside, I thought the neck felt predictably like a Rickenbacker and that was the primary reason I bought mine: because it was familiar.
There are those here who don't like the feel of a painted neck, but I personally prefer it and have never had an issue swapping from one to the other.

Totally agree with your assesment. Neck feels great. Does not feel much different to me than any poly finished neck (in terms the finish). Only reason why I'm getting rid of her is that I'm more into J basses now (with J pickups in bridge and neck) and this is getting no love. Thanks Mike!

Its measures 1 9/16" which is just a hair over 1 1/2". It's a little slimmer from to back than a P (more like a J), so she's closer to a J neck for sure (just a hair bigger).

This bass got me through the 80's and early 90's. Mine was made in 85, and it's worse for wear than this one, but I do love it so ... whoever buys this should be happy! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
