EBMM 5HH with ebony board, MOP inlays; $1500 shipped CONUS

On offer is a Musicman Stingray 5HH with a beautiful ebony board and mother of pearl inlays. This was one of a limited run for Guitar Center's 40th Anniversary, and it is a stunning axe. For pictures:

MobileMe Gallery

Typical SR5HH switching among 5 coil combinations for the two humbuckers, plus three-band eq. "Black cherryburst," ash body, maple neck with great "cathedral spires" in the grain, etc. etc. Includes the hardshell case. Condition is close to mint - all I can find is a small ding on the back of the body. Dig the black graduated nut, blending into the ebony. I'm the original owner, although it was once on a GC wall. Includes hardshell case and all case candy from purchase new.

I've owned three different 20th Anniversary SR5 basses over the years, but this is the single best SR5 I've ever played, and I'm surprised not to have had more interest in this bass in a prior listing here, and on ebay. This axe looks great, and sounds even better. I don't know if it's the ebony board, good karma or some combination thereof, but the voice of this bass is deep and authoritative, and the B-string is among the very best I've ever played on any bass, of any scale length, anywhere, and is completely continuous with the E-string. This baby THUMPS! And pitch is very, very centered. On several jazz gigs, the horn player volunteered that he was appreciating the clarity of the bass pitch.

I hate to sell it, but I'm way more comfortable on 19mm spacing. I was among the agitators this summer that unsuccessfully lobbied EBMM for 19mm SR5 spacing, and it was my affection for this exact bass that inspired that action. But I have moved on.

Looking for $1500 shipped CONUS. This seems to be around the going rate for 20th Anniversary SR5s, and this is certainly as good as any of those! It's no accident that this is my last SR5.

Willing to ship abroad if your country can accept a 52x20x8" box via USPS, you can live with USPS underinsurance and pay for all shipping costs beyond the first $60, and you bear all risks of loss or damage. And please don't ask for outlandish reductions in declared value for customs pr

Please don't be offended if I don't respond to trade offers, as I'm really looking for cash on this one...

C'mon, everybody needs some black cherryburst delight! Bass you can almost taste...mmm, hmmm, good!

Yes...frustrating. But I ended up with a Sadowsky 5-24 P/J with those favorable 5-24 ergonomics and more of a thump - it ain't the SR5HH thing, but it's useful and groovy in its own right, and it fits me like a glove.

To the extent I still play 4-string, I may get a 4HH at some point. the SR HH configuration is great.

How is Switzerland this winter?

Cold and windy and some places in the alps got way too much snow way too early, but in my living room it's cozy and warm

I can totally understand what you mean about the ergonomic aspects of the narrower string spacing. And about the greatness of the HH configuration. I think if my 20th was an HH I'd be at least willing to give the ergonomics a chance to grow on me...

I may need to think about your offer for a couple of days. As if I need another 'Ray...

Well, your 5H 20th Anniversary is an exceptional axe - I've never played another axe, by any maker, with that incredible mix of song and punch. OTOH, this one has incredible pitch clarity - notes are so, so centered, and the B string rules...the same kind of "continuous" quality you get on a Modulus Q5, but with a G string that does not sound like someone is pinching it in the gonads. The native sound reminds me of the bass sound on some mid-'70's Crusaders sessions, a little dry, with exceptional punch and clarity...add in the HH electronics, and it's a winner. Certainly the two best 5-string stingrays I've ever played...I'd almost suggest a trade, but I know that would only re-open ergonomic wounds. Sort of like going back to a girlfriend that done done you wrong.

Been thinking about Switzerland a bit, while re-reading old John LeCarre novels. Stay warm!

The ebony fingerboards on EBMM are fantastic. Bump for a great bass.
