Ernie Ball MusicMan 5-String SUB - passive $450

Sign in to disble this ad
Great way for those of us who are allergic to batteries to have a US Music Man at a great price.

Bought this on TB a couple years ago, selling because I'm only playing my 4 stringers. Practically mint, only damage I can find is a tiny pencil-lead size ding on the headstock, which does not show up because it's black.

$450 shipped (continental US) with a gig bag. Pictured TKL hardcase not included in that price, but let me know if you want it. It will be packed really well, I use FedEx.

Weighs 10 lbs 3 oz. on my digital fish scale.

Here are the specs:

BODY

Wood: Selected Poplar
Finish: Custom Music Man Textured Finish
Color: Textured Red
Bridge Music ManŽ chrome-plated, steel bridge plate with stainless saddles

NECK

Scale: 34"
Radius: 11"
Frets: 21 - High profile, wide
Width: 5-String 1-3/4" at nut, 2-3/4" at last fret
Wood: Black Painted Maple Neck and Headstock
Fingerboard Fretted - Rosewood
Finish Black Satin Finish
Tuners: Custom Music Man Tuners
Truss rod: Adjustable - no component or string removal
Attachment: 6 bolts - perfect alignment with no shifting

ELECTRONICS

Controls: Passive - volume, treble, and bass
Pickup: MusicManŽ Humbucking

Is the back of the neck painted? If so is it more of a gloss finish or satin finish? Thanks

Damn, that's pretty. Wish it was active! I think the back of the neck is painted on the SUB's.

FS Only at the Moment

For sale only for the time being - too many basses!

The back of the neck is painted black, more of a satin (or even flat) than a gloss finish, does not feel like Fender gloss.

This bass could easily pass as NOS.

How would you compare the passive sound to the usual MM Active sound?

I thought that question might come up, but since this is the only MM I have every played I really don't know. In comparison to my jazz bass, I would describe it as much punchier.

Hoping someone who has heard both will chime in.

I have owned/gigged active and passive SUBs and a few regular rays.

imho passive SUBs have the punch of a MM but do not have that super high end sizzle, or the super extended lows that the pre-amp offers.... The presence is very similar and I would say most of the tones are there....with a chewier texture LOL....this likely doesn't help much...

maybe a little more aggressive in the low-mids than the active...or less smooth....

if this was a 4 I would snag it now...although the seller likely wouldn't be parting with it..

I think it is fair to say it still sounds like a MM.

Bump, Price Drop to $450
