ESP 400 Series Jazz Bass. Early 80's made in Japan. MIJ.

ESP 400 Series Jazz Bass for sale

ESP made these beauties in the glory days of Japanese manufacturing. Pure copy of early 60's Fender Jazzes, this jazz just feels broken in and has fantastic resonance. Comes loaded with old EMG jazz pups and a matching EMG preamp with volume, blend, treble, and bass (9 volts). Has some nicks and dings that a thirty year old bass should have. Ask any questions and please look at the pics.

Will ship in a beat up but functional hardshell case. If you want a different set of pups, I have a set of Lakland/Hanson pups with passive pots that I could add in for an additional $100.

PRICE: $499.99 Shipped in the USA

I think this is a bass I owned back in the 90's which I gave away to a good friend in Florida because I was no longer using it.

Oh yeah...want it back? Believe in Destiny? I would make its old owner a good deal!

I owned one of these in white and it was really amazing.

If those pickups are the same EMGs I had, I've seriously been hunting them down recently as they sounded really smooth and fat.

I only see 3 knobs. How does the Bass/Treble work?

Bass and Treble are a concentric pot with two knobs. One controls bass and the other treble.

I agree! I have two other 400 Series ESP basses and these things are fantastic. This is my second Jazz ESP and the first one I had made me sell my Fender Custom Shop Jazz because it played and sounded better. Broken in. Just right.

Does the neck have to be removed to adjust the rod?

Tommygunn 01-24-2013 08:43 PM

Yes, just like an early 60's jazz.

Bump for a very cool bass! I've owned an early ESP P-bass since 1987 and it's very well made and plays great. How did you establish this J is from early 80's? I haven't found any date markings on my bass, so I have no idea when it's made as I bought it used. (On my bass the serial # is lower, in the 3000's)
