Not sure what else I can say about this bass that hasn't already been said. The juicy fretless tones that issue from this bass are beyond belief. And it is a very easy fretless to play. That fretless growl is just a natural part of the sound of this bass, but it will also respond beautifully and subtly to your technique as well.
I swore that I would never get an unlined fretless, but this bass is very easy to play in tune. The side-lines are just what the doctor ordered. It continues to amaze me that the plethora of inexpensive fretless basses on the market are not made with the side-lines, especially the extended range variety. If bass is your life, they really make life easier.
Bought this from a fellow TB'r about a year or so ago. I paid $3000 and about two months ago I had the fingerboard resurfaced at Schroeder Guitar here in Chicago($230). This bass is an absolutely perfect player. A dream fretless. I guarantee that if you can already get around on a fretless you could take this to the gig the very day you receive it. The players wear includes two things of which you should be aware:
- There are thumb nail divots in the pickup wood (John, I know that wasn't you!). If you are concerned I'm sure they could be repaired.
- Also, there is a patch cord ding just above the thumb rest.
- Aside from this, I don't think there is anything else that is worth mentioning but I will be giving it the once-over and posting better pictures soon.
.
.
- This color is all off. It is not all cherry and yellow-y! It is more like the first pic (on my monitor), just a bit darker. More elegant :
.
.
.
- Notice the nicks on the lower bout and the two on this side of the control cavity. If you look very closely there is one farther up in the middle top of the body. The white streaks are just reflections:
.
.
- There are small nicks on three of the corners of the headstock, but it is actually quite clean looking :
.
.
.
- Just a couple visible nicks here on the edge. There is also a smudge-nick thing on the one side of the strap button :

Thank you, Ted. George Furlanetto has worked for something like twenty years refining these AC basses.
Also, the electronics are in great shape. George once told me that the pots have, like, twenty thousand turns in them. There should be plenty left over for you preamp twiddlers out there.
This bass definitely has player wear, but nothing horrible or offputting, except that, judging by the thumbnail divots, it might have been played by a vampire or two...

I have no problem with an SKB-3006, that's for sure, but for this deal I have my eyes strictly on a fretless 6, so I need the cash.
Cheers to all!
ps. Hey John, thank you for the added info and the links, and I am glad to hear you got your yayas out with the AC!!!!!

Thank you, Art. I do indeed have some very helpful things for bass players and all improvisors to work on. Keep the groove!

Ok, you guys have caused me a lot of soul searching. I am always railing about people not posting specs on their bass sale threads, but I guess I am guilty of this to some extent as well.
I just got back from my space and gave the bass a real close look. First of all, I plugged it in and slammed for a while and as far as the controls are concerned there isn't even an audible scratch in the function of any of the six knobs. This AC-5 has solid gig-worthy electronics.
All in all, the bass has obvious player wear: Quite a few small chip-nicks, very minor indents, the patch-chord stab above the thumb rest, and the now notorious thumb-divots. The fingerboard and the neck are basically flawless. The fingerboard plays fantastic up and down the neck. Again, it was brilliantly re-surfaced at Schroeder Guitar Repair. There are no scratches or scrapes on the back of the neck, and the headstock is very clean. In fact, the backside of the body has a very nice grain and is quite clean with a nice finish.
Cheers to all!

I just took the AC over to my shipper and we put the bass on his super decked out space age scale and it read exactly 9.50 lbs.
As far as balance is concerned, there is a slight and very manageable tip with the bass sitting on your lap. On a strap, though, the balance is perfect.
Also, please note that I did find a spankin' brand bew set of F Bass La Bella strings. They are George's ultra tweaked set of steel roundwounds. George told me that Alain himself loves Thomastiks as well, but I assume that you would have to adjust the bridge to some extent to get those humming right. The set that I have on there now (the La Bella F Bass rounds) only have 15 or 20 hours on them and have plenty of life.
Also, with the full shipping and $3000 insurance the cost to get the bass to Phoenix From Chicago is $90. I thought I could get away with sixty bucks. So I have decided to set a firm price of $2750 shipped in the CONUS. (Hope the money talk is not breaking any TB rules). That is about the best I can do for now.
Thank all of you PMers for your interest.
