Just got this bass and it smokes! Just can't seem to get used to anything more than 34" scale. This is an unusual BN5 because of the finish. George calls it ice blue. All the usual Fbass specs. V/V/T....T/M/B controls with push pull for passive and humbucker/single coil's. Swamp ash body, 9.8 lbs on my bathroom scale. Just set it up with a fret dress, new DR fatbeams, neck and intonation adjustments. Has some wear on the fingerboard and I can understand why. This bass has killer fingerstyle and slap tones and sustains forever. Has some finish checking on the bridge PU but the finish is in really great shape otherwise. Comes with the usual Fbass/levy's bag.
Trades I'm interested in are Sadowsky 5ers or similar in 34" scale only. 6ers with 18mm bridge spacing also 34" scale only. Also....maple FB's only on the trades although I will consider pau ferro boards also. Hit me with the trade offers. Sale price is $1725 shipped.

At least you get a bump for a fine bass and a great city - just came back from Austin - unbelievable place...especially the restaurant on the lake where you watch the sun set.

What do I do? A friend of mine always raves about his F Bass, though I never actually got a chance to play it.

A friend of mine always raves about his F Bass, though I never actually got a chance to play it. | I've owned a BN5 as well as my current bass which is a Nordy VJ5, both with 34.5 scales and IMO there is very little 'feel' difference to a 34" scale (I'm using a Sadowsky 24F5 as a reference for scale here) I had to switch between the BN5 and a Passive Fender Jazz 5 for a gig and never missed a beat.
I do admit however that I had to look at my left hand for a couple songs on my BN5 when I didn't practice it every day, but hey just wear sun glasses and make like you're looking at someone in the audience to your left
I say give the FBass a try as they hold their value fairly well. If it's not for you, sell it. I'll warn you though, I regret selling my BN5 and wish I had it back!

But I played an Fbass and there was, as the educational researchers call it, "no significant difference" in feel. Makes the B string just a little tighter, and the tone is awesome. Mtngoat is selling a 6er like this, and if I had the $$$ I'd be picking it up.

I have an interesting trade offer. Really need the dough though. Played The F bass last night and it sounds great, just like every F I've owned before (4 BN6's and 2 BN5's)..........KILLER! If you are a Jazz bass player, you will feel right at home on an F bass. Balance and position on my neck is so comfy. I got a Smith a while back and the body shape and positioning take some getting used to. I play with my eyes closed a lot and everything is where it should be on the BN5. The Smith is a different story. Upper bout is short so the headstock gets a little further away. |

thanks | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
