I picked this bass up locally a couple years back intent on re-finishing it and getting some new hardware, etc. Needless to say, that project never happened. Since there seems to be some renewed interest in all original vintage 1K's, I figure I'll post it here and see if there's any interest. SOLD Asking $575 plus shipping SOLD. It will ship in its original G&L HSC
Lemme start by saying....its got mojo ! This was a player's bass and it is well played. There are a few chips out of the finish which reveal the mahogany body, some dents and nicks on the body and around the headstock. A minor dent on the back of the neck behind the 3rd fret that has been filled and sanded. Some finish wear down to the wood on back of neck in the usual spots. The black finish, where not chipped, is thick and solid with minimal checking. And if you abruptly swing the volume from 0 to full, you can coax some scratchiness out of the volume pot. As mentioned, its a hog body so she's no lightweight. Weighs in at just about 10 lb. Some fretwear, but still very playable. Finally, a couple of the adjustable pole pieces are no longer adjustable due to a combination of tightness and/or stripped hex thread.
The hardware has the smooth black finish and the paint is worn off about half the neck plate and a quarter of the bridge. Currently strung with Randy Jackson Alchemy's which was a failed experiment. Put some flatwounds on this baby !
The good:
- All original, 1982 dated neck
- Mahogany body, solid black finish
- Maple neck (skunk stripe) with rosewood board
- Electronics are original and work fine (with a little scratchiness when rapidly moving the volume pot as noted above)
- Three position series, parallel, parallel with bass boost pickup coil switch
- It sounds massive like every L1K should
- It plays great
- The neck is straight and the truss rod adjustment fine
- comes with well worn OHSC. Not pretty but still in working condition
