Greetings, shoppers. Check this out...
Let me start by saying...NO TRADES. The purpose of this sale is an acute case of too-many-basses.
This is a 1986 Pedulla MVP4 (the fretted version of the Buzz) that has a super-thin, fast neck. The body has taken a beating over the years, but the neck is nearly perfect. The back of the neck is ding-free, the ebony fretboard is in great shape, and the frets are great as well. The fretwork is as you would expect on a Pedulla (i.e. flawless) and it is capable of a very low-action buttery setting. I've got it set pretty low at the moment, in fact. Plays great! The only neck flaw is some varnish flaking around the edges - not noticeable without close inspection. Truss rod works as it should, and I'll include the wrench that fits it, which I got from Stu-Mac.
Now, the electronics. When I got the bass the pots had an annoying "woosh" sound when turned - I was not a fan. So, I replaced the preamp with a brand new Bartolini harness:
HR-5.4 - 5 knob prewired harness - Volume-Blend-Treble-Mid (w.switch) - Bass (NTMB-918F 3-band Preamp/Tone Control Module)
I installed the harness with the push/pull (on the volume knob) active/passive switch, in case the battery (kept in the control cavity behind 4 screws) ever died in a live situation. In order to fit the electronics I needed to do a small amount of careful routing to the control cavity cover. The cover now fits great, and feels as though it has enough material to survive even the most aggressive refinish.
The bass now sounds totally awesome - very flexible tonally. The (original) Bartolini pickups mate well with the Bartolini preamp - I believe that this bass sounds a lot like a brand-new MVP with this set-up. I'll include the original electronics.
The LED light on the front is not wired to anything, and is likely dead.
Strap locks (Dunlop) are installed. I'll put the original strap buttons on if the buyer does not want the locks. Original buttons included either way.
On to cosmetics - the body is
beat reliced! The back is painted over in black to cover a previous owner's harsh belt buckle wear. This was not done by me, but it seems to be preventing further wear effectively. The truss rod cover is long gone. The awesome old-school logo is mostly, but not entirely, intact. There is some oxidation on the bridge, and one of the tuning pegs has most of its silvery plating worn off.
One possibility for the new owner...have Mike Pedulla refinish it for $675 (as quoted on the Pedulla website) and have a like-new MVP for well under $2K! Were I keeping this, I'd do this...but I just have too many basses. It's time for this one to make someone else happy.
Original much-dinged but functional Pedulla HSC included.
