Up for sale is a 2006 Lakland 55-01 fretless bass with upgraded Bartolini MK-5 American pups replacing the Korean MK-1 pups. The pre is the Seymour Duncan Steve Bailey STC-3pSB 3-band Tone Circuit pre-amp; It really has a Steve Bailey like tone. The ebony board is in good shape other than some string wear. I have photographed as closely as I can. There are a few dings on the body and a good one by the pick-up. There is a hole where the 5th knob once resided, I had planned to add a coil tap switch to go between single coil and humbucker modes but I haven't been using this awesome bass much. I've been playing my fretless jazz bass pretty much exclusively. I have waxed the finger board with Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil and gunstock wax, an idea from a bass player article written by Rick Turner, also in the BP Fretless Bass book, if preferred I can remove it and leave the ebony bare. The neck is straight with lowish action for a bit of growl. Neck profile is on the flat side, very comfy, very straight. Very thick slab of Dark Ebony finger board. I would describe the sound as modernish. I am selling because I want to buy my friend's 1977 Jazz Bass. I will ship in an old gig bag. PayPal is preferred but I will take money order or cashiers check. Not up for trades
I am looking for $ 780 shipped CONUS. Fire sale....$630 shipped...I am seriously losing money on this! My wife is a full time Oriental Medical student and hasn't been able to work with all the classes and studying. I hate selling on the land of Evil so I've held off but I can't wait too much longer. I have great feedback here and on eBay as well. hyperslothboy is my user name...I was young once lol.

Will try to take a better lit image of the fingerboard as well. It's a thick slab of ebony so I believe any wear is quite superficial. I do offer returns btw, minus shipping.

I was planning on installing a coil tap to go from humbucker to single coil but then I got a Jaco Sig fretless here on TB and I need the cash. The Steve Bailey pre has stacked Bass/Treble knobs. The neck is super straight with low action...plus I will take a return minus shipping cost. If you want better pictures I can try do better. I haven't had much interest so I haven't posted any. Thanks for the questions..their good-uns. I have great feedback on the'bay as well...hyperslothboy is my user name. I was young once.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Tampa, FL | | | some interest bump. Still haven't hit eBay. Would rather sell it here. The bass is pretty killer but my wife is out of work and money is an issue. It sounds a lot like a Steve Bailey because of the thick ebony board plus Seymour Duncan S.B. preamp combo. The US barts don't hurt either. If I were to keep the bass I would install a coil tap switch in the extra hole.

What about the wax?
How does it affects the sound? Can it be removed without any consequence for the fingerboard?
This sounds like a very good deal to me. I am looking for a fretless with its own character and particular sound.
Tell me more.
Do you have soundclips?
Thanks! |

It's a pretty nice finish when applied though and seems to feel a little smoother and harder and shiner. I will clean up the board with lemon oil and I'll throw in the wax with the bass. I don't have any recent clips but I can get some done this weekend. I am also going to try to take better photos since I am trying to psyché myself out to list this on eBay.
