SOLD!!!
Yes folks this is it. It's only the 30th one ever made thus the serial number 5030. I confirmed it with Brian at Lakland. Fresh back from Lakland with a clean bill of health. There's a ton of history in this bass. For instance:
This is the Test Bass used in Bass Player's January 1997 5 String Shootout. It got a great review to nobody's surprise. Carl at Lakland said the highly figured maple fretboard is very old wood that came out of McFarland's grandfather's house floor, as some of the special early basses did contain that wood.
A third bonus is that this bass is the bass you're hearing on the 1st edition of Guitar Hero.
OK enough history. Here's the other important parts.
This is a fully functional playing instrument. It belonged to a player and was used in his arsenal. It still plays and sounds great with plenty of fret left.
You will see some discoloration in the fingerboard and some on the narrow part of the back of the neck from play. There's only one good bump on the top of the cutout where your belly would rest. There's one tiny nick in the back of the bass too. Has the normal swirls that come with a 16 year old played bass, but in overall, very good condition considering year(1996).
The pickups have been upgraded to Nordstrands. The preamp is Aguilar 3 band and it has the standard Lakland functions and works well with the Nordys. Knobs are now black knurled.
I could be persuaded to part with my copy of the 1997 issue with this bass in it. Even the article describe it to a Tee and it weighs under 9 lbs.
Own and play this piece of history for only(price drop) $2,400.00 shipped CONUS. I gotta move on another instrument. LAST PRICE DROP BEFORE IT GOES TO AUCTION.
I've discovered I'm more of a JJ configuration kinda guy, so this and my 5502 are going.(5502 is already gone)
Having said that, here are the basses I would entertain trades w/wo cash. SOLD!!!
Zon Sonus 519
Nordstrand 5
F Bass
Lakland DJ/JO 5

I hope that helps.
I played it tonight and now I'm trying to remember why I have it up for sale. I seemed to be able to pull up some of the stock/vintage tones a little easier this time around just like the Jan. 1997 article talks about. |

Lakland/Nordstrand/Aguilar....how can you go wrong? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
