PRICE DROP!! $875 shipped conus.
This is a 1982 Yamaha BB2000.
I wanted a BB2000 and ended up finding a natural one like I wanted, but in the meantime I got this beauty. The problem is that I don't have the heart to play it. It's so authentic that I can't even bring myself to take the original strings and clear pickguard off it. This needs to fall in the hands of a collector or someone who can remove what I don't have the heart to do. I won't be mad either way.
The original strings are so dead it sounds like they're being muted. It still plays like a dream. The key to the case and a copy of owners manual is included. The truss rod turns freely as it should.
In case you haven't seen one with the clear pickguard, it was an option you could have in order to protect against slap marks and digs. You have to remember there weren't too many basses without pickguards when these first came out.
As you can see it only has 3 blemishes. One is a belt buckle accident that left three small marks in the clear coat. The second is a bump close to the strap pin on the upper horn. The other is a mark on the face of the headstock.

Btw, I never had to adjust the truss rod until now, but just in case do you know what's the size of that key in the pic?

On the BB1000S, which is very similar, the truss rod hex wrench size is 5/16" or 8mm (closest metric equivalent). Most likely the same rod was used in both basses.
You can probably get a wrench from McMaster Carr. If not, I know that US Masters uses a similar truss rod nut in some of their basses and sells the wrenches, but I don't know what size those wrenches are.
Great bass here. I had never seen one with the pickguard before. A lot of these got modded, so this is a time capsule item. |

These were very special instruments that were made at a time when Yamaha was really trying to make inroads into the US market. They spared no expense on these and it shows. I also own an original natural BB-2000 that I bought new in 1982. They will have to bury me with that one.
You really can't find a better 4 string. These are amazing! |

Those were not offered in the US so it has 2 things you won't see on the American offered Yamaha's #1 a maple fretboard/#2 Jazz pickups under those larger shells. This particular one has a figured Nato(mahogany) body, Basslines stacked Jbass pu's, and an Aguilar 2 band pre. It thumps!!!
Now back to the BB2000......best non active bass ever IMO. |

| | | | I remember the first time I heard Halegroove wear his first BB2000 out..........slapping and beating it (Ala Marcus Miller) unmercifully. My tongue was hanging out, and my eyes bulged............never had a bass and a bassplayer sounded soooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He took that bass out on tour all over the world...............
I'm another 80's Yamaha lover...............don't take my word........go try one out if you can find it.........better yet.....buy this one.......compare them to your local Fender dealer's current crop...............Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 |
