SOLD Pre-EB Stingray +OHSC $2000 shipped to ConUS

Sign in to disble this ad
[b]UPDATE: SOLD!

The bass is 9.6 pounds on my bathroom scale. It has a serial number beginning with "B0" which is the sign of a genuine pre-EB.

This is a great bass but I have to clear the herd out a bit.

I believe it is a 1983. The electronics are perfect, the neck is nice. Much thinner than current Stingrays. Truss rod works fine. The finish has little "rub marks" in it that you can see under certain light. There's a little chip in the paint on the body behind the neck. About the size of a pea. Other than that, the bass looks great. The bass also comes with an original Pre-EB Musicman cordaroy case - which I'm told is worth about $200 - $300 on its own. It's dirty on the outside but works perfectly and is in great condition inside.

Price reduced to $2100 shipped to continental US. No trades please - I'm doing this because I just have too many basses hanging around right now.

Here are the photos.

The bass is also featured here on this youtube clip. Its after the solo so you have to wait a while.

Is the finish and pick guard original?
How much does it weigh?

I believe so but I can't confirm as I've only had the bass for a little over a year.

The reason I believe so is because the bass is obviously somewhat of a case queen. The wear on the neck and frets are consistent with rather light usage. When I looked at the neck pocket when I bought it, it didn't look like the neck pocket of a bass that had been re-painted (but I don't pretend to be an expert on this). Also, the outside of the case is a bit beat up and dirty, but the inside is pristine. As I understand it that's an important thing to look for as the inside of the case and the bass itself should "match" in terms of wear, etc.

Also, this "trans red" is a color that was offered at this time.

Bottom line, this bass looks like one that has received medium/light usage and has original paint (at least to my eye).

I used to think that I like the EBMM 3 band EQ better than the two band preamp, but my '81 pre-EB is simply the best sounding and playing StingRay I've come across. If this bass is anything like it, it's worth every penny.

You're on dangerous ground Oli; for $50 I won't tell Sterling!
Bump for a beautiful bass that I didn't think they made in this color; I have an 83' and want another

'83 Stingray Bump! I love my White/Maple 2-Band example.

Last year before EB took them over! (Although some INTERESTING Behind the Scenes SkullDugery was taking place from '81 - '85!)

They didn't make this color in the '70s. But it showed up for a few years in the early 80s. Very pretty trans red.

This one may go soon guys. If you're interested I encourage you to jump in. Frankly I'm only selling it because I have a number of great great basses already, and will take possession of a custom Fodera in May that costs beaucoup $$ - so I really need to clear out a few.
