F/S Stereo Carvin 5-string

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's an unusual Carvin 5-String that I'm thinking about letting go. I've owned this bass since the early 90's. Besides the beautiful wood, it has some interesting electronics.

$650 with shipping to CONUS for starters. May seem kind of high for an old Carvin, but it's special. All counteroffers considered.

Weighs 9.5 lbs - a lot of maple in this bass.
Neck through
No model number - very custom but mostly an LB75
Check out the link from jcburn's post below http://www.carvinmuseum.com/whatmodelbass.html

Serial number suggests 1990-1

This bass can be played in stereo with separate jacks for each pick up. I only used it in this mode for recording because who wants to haul around 2 bass stacks. If you plug your cord into the back jack, then it functions like a normal mono bass.

Besides that the pickups our dual coil but each has a switch to change them to single coils. A third switch changes the pickups from in phase to 180 deg out of phase. There are a lot of combinations with the 3-switches.

Any interest?

Alow me.

Cool bass. Is it a neck-through? Is there a model name/number on it?

Flks should check out www.carvinmuseum.com. I think this one looks like a '91 LB85 or LB75 with some custome options. Cool basses.

more pics

Here are some head shots.

The turners may look silver here, but they're gold.

I have a Carvin 5-string that's pretty much the twin of this bass. Mine has black hardware and the Kahler whammy bridge, but other than that it's identical including the color. The pickups have an interesting tone with a lot of midrange content. If the neck is the same as mine (which it appears to be) the string spacing is narrower than on most other basses I've played. For me that was a good thing because it allowed for very fast movement across the strings. But it may be too narrow for slap technique. I really enjoyed the stereo outputs on mine too.

Yes, this is the narrowest 5-string I've every played. 17mm string spacing at the bridge. Neck is 1 3/4" at the nut and 2 5/8" at the 24th fret. Not for slapping, but easy for moving across the neck. It's a great 5-string for a small handed person or someone moving up from 4 strings as the neck is as narrow as a lot of 4-string basses.

If there's no interest here, it's going to craigslist or a local store for consignment. Nix on the evil ebay.
