F/S: Fender USA Precision P/J - PRICE DROP - Relisted

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD !!

USA Fender P/J Precision bass re-listed with price drop. No trades. It’s an easy-to-play and incredibly versatile instrument. You can't find more classic tones or a more traditional vibe for the money.

It’s a 2004 Precision, serial number Z4156402, made in Corona, California. The Jazz pickup and pickup controls were later added by a long-time, Fender-authorized repair shop. The work looks like it was performed at the factory. The luthier used a 3-way slider —ala Fender Stratocaster pickup controls—for pickup switching because he believes it is quieter than a blend knob. As far as I can tell, he’s right. It’s never made a sound that I’ve heard.

It has an alder body finished in classic, three-tone sunburst, with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard: 20 frets; 1.625” wide at the nut. The frets are in very good condition. I have only played it with flatwounds. As the pictures show, I added a bridge cover, a pickup cover and a thumb rest—all from Fender—which I think provide a great, old-school vibe. It has Schaller straplocks which can also be used, of course, with standard strap ends. The Fender molded, hardshell case is included, is also in very good shape and functions perfectly.

The P-bass pickup nails the traditional Precision tone. The Jazz pickup adds that classic Jazz bite and burp. Combined, the two pickups can be adjusted by the tone control to provide a third array of great tones in-between.

I’ve taken good care of this bass and would call its condition an 8.5 out of 10. There are a few minor, typical swirls and scratches; but only one, tiny, pinhead-sized hole that goes through the finish. (It’s so small I couldn’t successfully get a picture of it.) Anything that may appear as a mark or a smudge in the pictures is actually a reflection or glare.

The fit and finish is excellent everywhere, especially on the neck and fretboard. The action can easily be setup any way you like. I’ve always been able to set my flatwounds low without any string buzz. Using our bathroom scale, it appears to weigh a little over 9 pounds.

Price drop to $700.00. I will ship to the lower 48 contiguous states. Shipping and insurance is at buyer’s cost. PayPal is preferred. It will, of course, be well-packed. THIS BASS IS SUBJECT TO PRIOR SALE LOCALLY OR ON EBAY, WHERE IT IS NOW ALSO LISTED. I’d rather sell to another TBer, however, and this price reflects the eBay fees I will save, which have been passed on to you. Act quickly.

Selector

I am hung up on the selector switch or I would be playing it right now! I like to blend a little more of the P in the sound. Not just P-PJ-J, Maybe this is the hangup with others as well.

Among the selector switch, the passive tone control on the bass and the EQ on my preamps and heads, I've never felt I had any problem blending in "...a little more of the P in the sound" or whatever other tone I wanted. Well worth it, IMO, for the silence of a selector switch over a noisy blend pot.
