F/S G&L SB 2 Super Rare 1983 Belair Green(Viking Blue)

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a very rare G&L from 1983 in Belair Green or Viking Blue...not sure correct name on this. Condition is a 9/10. Pics show a couple of very small dings. This is my friends bass and he has owned it since new. Never giged and very lightly played. Has factory installed EMG jazz pickups! Comes with a new G&L gig bag

680.00 shipped CONUS

Yes, since EMG's were never "factory installed".

Not to nitpick, but I believe that color was called Viking Blue.

These are superb basses and that one's in sweet shape minus the missing MFDs. If the originals are included, this one shouldn't last long at that price.

The frets look flat like they've been filed down and not crowned.

Weight?

A couple of examples of Viking Blue early G&Ls:

GGJaguar's Guitarium and Ampeteria 1982 G&L SC-2
GGJaguar's Guitarium and Ampeteria 1988 G&L SC-3 (blue)

I have an '82 SB-1 that's a bit lighter blue than that, but there seems to be a lot of variation with that color. Whether that's due to fading of particular guitars or simple variations in the way the paint was mixed at the factory, I don't know. Maybe both? But these models were not offered in a wide variety of colors -- mostly red, white, blue and black with the occasional burst finish sneaking through. Like almost everything G&L did, there are one-offs and custom colors that occasionally pop-up (I believe our friend Chef has one in Seafoam or something close to it).

Sorry for the tangent. I'm a GLeek, I admit.

Howdy!
That bass looks great; but, I'd stake an eye tooth those pickups weren't installed at the factory. Leo was pretty proud of his pickups. And, yep, those frets appear to be the wrong shape, I believe they've been dressed.
Neither of these things keep it from being a nice bass.
