I played a bunch of 5 string Roscoe's last summer and they are sweet to play and sound great that's for sure. This is very tempting. I've been playing "jazz" basses for a long time. I'm frustrated with my search. Maybe I need to try something totally different from passive jazz. Was hoping to keep it to $1,500 max though...
Bump for a sweet bass. |

There are bunch of smaller builders that make beautiful instruments (Mike Lull and Sadowsky basses) in that price range for used but they tend to be Fender like instruments. To break out in something completely different will most likely cost more. But that being said, there are some more basic Roscoes, the Century Standard and some more basic models that can be found in that price range but they are tough to come by. This one is a master grade instrument. Good luck with your search. There are a ton of wonderful instruments out there waiting and wanting to be played!

And typical Roscoe aesthetics at work....all of the woods go together beautifully - sonically and visually. On this one I particularly love the top and headstock cap. The look of burl near the bridge to waterfalls near the horns is replicated perfectly on the headstock. Beautiful. All the best with the transaction. |

I went to You Tube and searched Roscoe LG3000 and heard a bunch of really nice stuff. I was convinced this morning that all I need is a Fender, Lakland or G&L passive jazz...now I'm not so sure. Damn they sound sweet.
Can it really cover all my gigs though - church, funk, R&B, soul, rock, theatre, etc.? |

I love the grain of the ash...and add in mahogany and maple...and that wenge board? I can only guess that this thing is a sonic monster. |

I understand that some are 35" and you can request that as an option. And yes Jerry, this is a very big tonal monster. Like I said, it really pains me to sell. It's really is a quite versatile instrument. I have heard some call them a P-Bass on steroids with sort of a trademark Roscoe sound twist, but quite versatile. Cuts through REALLY well. I believe the combination of swampash and the wenge board (which is really fast by the way) make for a great punchy tight sound and yet it has a really round sounding full low E. It is really quite awesome. I swore I would never sell this one but I had a custom instrument made for me that has become my main instrument and this one is not getting played. I am not going to keep dropping the price until someone bites. If I don't get my minimum I am just going to keep it.

Even when compared to other Roscoes, this bass stands out. Besides the obvious beauty and top craftsmanship, this bass has a supper tight and focused sound. It not only cuts through - it punches you in the gut! Sonically, I can put the sound somewhere in between a Ken Smith and a P Bass, with the classic Bartolini/Roscoe fatness and slight compression. You can hear every note with clarity and fatness at the same time. It is lightweight (to me) and sits just right in your hands. I considered buying the bass from Jeff, but I am financially challenged these days.
To recap: Great sound (fat and punchy), superb craftsmanship, beautiful woods, mint condition, lightweight, low action, great price, great seller! |

That is the standard configuration for the LG series of basses. I am a finger style player only, do not play with a pick and I don't notice any difference at all. There is a sufficient anchor point. I rest on the front corner of the neck pickup. No problems. I am sure that all the other Roscoe player would concur.
