F/S Keith Roscoe LG-3000 Mint

Sign in to disble this ad
*** SOLD ***

For sale is a very nice mint condition Keith Roscoe LG-3000 four string bass. The body is Swampash with an exhibition grade Maple Burl Top with a Mahogany tone plate with natural finish. Maple neck with Purpleheart center with Maple and Cherry accent laminations. The fingerboard is Wenge. This is a mint condition amazing piece of craftsmanship which was completed in late 2008. Bartolini pickups and electronics. Killer tone with playability all day long. It has only left my house about a half dozen times. It pains me to let go of this baby but I have another bass that was custom built for me that has become my goto weapon and this one is becoming a closet queen and that just cannot stand. It is such a wonderful instrument that it deserves to be played. A couple years ago I had another LG-3000 and I foolishly sold it thinking I was going to become a five string player. Tried it for a while only to realize that I just AM a four string kind of guy. I contacted the guy I sold it to asking to buy it back and he refused. So I picked this one up in hopes of coming close to recapturing that tone I missed so much. I was pleasantly surprised when not only did it meet my expectations but exceeded them. In short, this is one killer bass and needs to be loved and cherished. Asking $2300 shipped CONUS or best offer. PM me with questions and please note that I am not interested in any trades. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful. I have been playing 5 for years and am looking for a 4 to be my main (probably only) bass. I played a bunch of 5 string Roscoe's last summer and they are sweet to play and sound great that's for sure. This is very tempting. I've been playing "jazz" basses for a long time. I'm frustrated with my search. Maybe I need to try something totally different from passive jazz. Was hoping to keep it to $1,500 max though...

Bump for a sweet bass.

In that price your choices will be limited. There are bunch of smaller builders that make beautiful instruments (Mike Lull and Sadowsky basses) in that price range for used but they tend to be Fender like instruments. To break out in something completely different will most likely cost more. But that being said, there are some more basic Roscoes, the Century Standard and some more basic models that can be found in that price range but they are tough to come by. This one is a master grade instrument. Good luck with your search. There are a ton of wonderful instruments out there waiting and wanting to be played!

Believe me, I'm aware of the price point and it's limitations. I'll probably be stuck with some cheap Fender or Fender knock offs, but I guess it could be worse. Again, sweet bass.

What an absolute stunner of a bass. And typical Roscoe aesthetics at work....all of the woods go together beautifully - sonically and visually. On this one I particularly love the top and headstock cap. The look of burl near the bridge to waterfalls near the horns is replicated perfectly on the headstock. Beautiful. All the best with the transaction.

Is it 34" scale? I know some Roscoe 3000's are 35" scale.

I went to You Tube and searched Roscoe LG3000 and heard a bunch of really nice stuff. I was convinced this morning that all I need is a Fender, Lakland or G&L passive jazz...now I'm not so sure. Damn they sound sweet.

Can it really cover all my gigs though - church, funk, R&B, soul, rock, theatre, etc.?

Jerry, you have a good eye. I missed that. I was just stunned by the entire package.

Should be 34" - the five and six-string (and seven) models are 35" by default. This really is a gorgeous instrument. I love the grain of the ash...and add in mahogany and maple...and that wenge board? I can only guess that this thing is a sonic monster.

I am interested in this bass. However, would you consider taking 2k for this beauty?

In response to some of the other commentary, yes it is 34" scale. I understand that some are 35" and you can request that as an option. And yes Jerry, this is a very big tonal monster. Like I said, it really pains me to sell. It's really is a quite versatile instrument. I have heard some call them a P-Bass on steroids with sort of a trademark Roscoe sound twist, but quite versatile. Cuts through REALLY well. I believe the combination of swampash and the wenge board (which is really fast by the way) make for a great punchy tight sound and yet it has a really round sounding full low E. It is really quite awesome. I swore I would never sell this one but I had a custom instrument made for me that has become my main instrument and this one is not getting played. I am not going to keep dropping the price until someone bites. If I don't get my minimum I am just going to keep it.

I had an opportunity to play this bass for a few weeks and it is a monster! Even when compared to other Roscoes, this bass stands out. Besides the obvious beauty and top craftsmanship, this bass has a supper tight and focused sound. It not only cuts through - it punches you in the gut! Sonically, I can put the sound somewhere in between a Ken Smith and a P Bass, with the classic Bartolini/Roscoe fatness and slight compression. You can hear every note with clarity and fatness at the same time. It is lightweight (to me) and sits just right in your hands. I considered buying the bass from Jeff, but I am financially challenged these days.

To recap: Great sound (fat and punchy), superb craftsmanship, beautiful woods, mint condition, lightweight, low action, great price, great seller!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but the pickups placed at an odd angle. If one is primarily a finger player who typically rests his thumb on the top of a pickup (not a slapper/popper)... does that affect the feel?

You are correct. The pups are slanted at an angle. That is the standard configuration for the LG series of basses. I am a finger style player only, do not play with a pick and I don't notice any difference at all. There is a sufficient anchor point. I rest on the front corner of the neck pickup. No problems. I am sure that all the other Roscoe player would concur.
