Though i don't play my 4003 very often, I too put the VRI Toaster pup in the neck pos., and it makes a great bass sound even better. With the neck pup solo'd, you get a really smooth, deep, warm tone, that balances well with the "treble" pups bite. Also, the vintage case is smokin'- good luck on the sale.

At the advice of Rickenboogie, I swapped out the stock neck pickup on my 2010 blonde Ric 4003 with a new toaster top (purchased on the Ric website a couple of weeks ago), and I am sooo glad I did the swap! The toaster sounds so warm and good. I pull out the tone knob for the "vintage" sound on the bridge pickup, and play with both pickups on. One word: saWEET!!
