F/S: Spector Rebop Dlx 5 w/ upgraded electronics - $725

SOLD!!!

I have a Spector Rebop Dlx 5 for sale. Here is a summary of all the features:
  • Alder body with maple top, with an amber gloss finish. The top actually makes up about half of the body, its not just a thin laminate top.
  • 3-piece, bolt-on, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.
  • Spector crown inlays.
  • 35" scale makes for a very good low B-string.
  • Very lightweight at 8lbs, 5oz. Even with its light weight, I haven't noticed any neck dive issues. The stock electronics have been replaced. It has a EMG 40DC in the bridge position and a 40CS in the neck position and the preamp is the EMG BQC system, wired for 18-volt operation.
  • Comes with a hardshell Spector case, straplocks and original strap pins.
It is strung with a set of LaBella Slappers on that could definitely use a change. I might be talked into throwing on a cheap set of D'addario XLs, but everyone has such different string preferences that changing them now seems like it might be a waste.

One quick note...this bridge, as it is, will NOT accept a .130 gauge B string. I haven't tried a .125, but I've found that taper-wound strings are the way to go with this bass. If you like .130, non-tapered B strings, you will have to have the bridge slot for the B string widened. I never bothered as it worked fine for me with a tapered B, but wanted to give full disclosure.

It's in very good condition, the only imperfections are some scratching of the black bridge. I can't find any dents or dings on it anywhere. This is the only decent pic I have of it right now, but I'll try to take better pics sometime this weekend:

Tonally, this is not quite as aggressive as the neck-through models, but its definitely in the ballpark. I found it more versatile than my other Spectors. I'm just not using it that much these days as it doesn't fit in with my current project as my other basses and it deserves to be played.

I am asking $725 shipped OBO, but would also trade for 2 Genz-Benz NeoX 1x12s or a NeoX 2x12. I may consider trades for other mid-to-high end 2x12s, so feel free to make an offer if you think I'd be interested. All trades would be +/- cash, as needed. I accept Paypal, so PM with offers. Thanks for looking!

These are great basses for the $$. I've certainly played instrumetns that cost significantly more and weren't as nice.

Great bass, and great color! I've got the same thing but in natural. I may look into upgrading the pickups the same. How do you like them? How hard/easy is the install?

Well, I didn't install them, that was done by the previous owner. The preamp looks like a pretty complicated install, but EMG installs are pretty easy compared to Bartolini or Aguilar IMO. The pickups are, of course, super-easy once the pre is installed. Just connect the clips and you're done.

As far as tone...I've played stock Rebops before and they are not even close to this bass with the upgrades IMO. I never have like the Tonepump, its too easy to over-adjust and I dislike the fact that its boost-only. The HZs are decent pickups, but I've always thought the active EMGs were a cut above those. Most Spector neck-thru basses come with 2 x EMG 40DC pickups, which give those basses an VERY aggressive sound and can be hard to tame. With the 40DC/40CS combo, like this bass has, you can still get an aggressive tone, but its much easier to control and dial back. Add in a pre with cut-boost controls and a variable midrange, and you get a lot more versatility than a stock Rebop, or even a stock Euro LX with a Tonepump IMO. Plus, its sooooo light and comfy.

I don't really need another bass right now, but I'll keep it mind.

Understood. Let me know if you change your mind. I'd be willing to do an even swap if that helps at all

FWIW, I had a Rebop 5 DLX for a while and the bridge took the .125 B string, no problem. Never tried a .130 as I don't like them that heavy.

Would trade for 2 1x12s or 2x10s, depending on brand (Aguilar DB, Epifani PS, Genz-Benz NeoX, etc.). Or, 1 of the previously mentioned, plus cash. Again, +/- cash as needed, though I can't add a LOT of cash. I already have some good offers on the table, but not exactly what I'm looking for.
