Wow.

Bet this is intense. The thing is glistening. I have only played my own 90's TRB-6.

Does it have the "bone" tuner wings? I can't tell from the pictures, they are not supersizing for me.

TRB vs TRBJP

The finish on your bass is really out of this world. Wow...again. It's really a knockout. There is a Roscoe 6 up that just sold with a very similar finish. Keith calls it "Cordovan".

Now, I understand that the JPs have the Ash/Alder/Maple sandwich bodies, whereas the TRB-6 basses have only ash. Would you please characterize the tonal differences between the much-loved 90's TRB-6 34" scales (like mine with the rosewood board) and these newer TRBJP 35" scales?

Thank you, Sir.

TRBJP2 vs TRB6

Hi Kevin,
I think overall the tonal characteristics are very similar, except that the added exotic woods on the JP models makes it more focus and defined, specially on higher registers. I believe this is why John P. chose these woods. As you probably know the original TRB6 and TRBJP share the same electronics, with the pre set mid selector. the new JP2 besides the 35" scale and the additional two frets, have a sweep mid knob, as the the rest of the knobs eg. bass, treble etc..

both JP and JP2 are very powerful basses and extremely versatile, but I find the JP2 has a bigger sound with a more robust B string and well defined notes IMHO. than the original JP.
There is a an extremely talented TB fellow member that put together a clip recording a tremendous solo in a studio environment. Please see link below... I hope mr "Bijoux" doesnt't mind this..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk16jOPQGDA

please let me know if you got more questions and I hope I answered your inquiry.
peace

JP2

They are the same basses TRBJP2's, same color, same manufacturer, same everything but Mr. Bijoux has his, and I own another one...
I only used this amazing video for sound characteristics representation.
I hope that answers your question.

Piezo?

"Controls Master Volume (bridge & neck), Piezo Volume, 3-Band EQ (pan-pot)..." I didn't think that the JP models had a piezo bridge, does the JPII have it?

piezo

Thanks
good catch, the JP doesn't have the Piezo volume...yamaha needs to update their website as I just did a copy and paste thing.
thanks for heads up and I erased the piezo volume feature.
the only basses that have it are the 6P and the 6PII

Trade

My TRB6II + cash.
Take it or leave it!

MIJ, 35" scale, 24 fret rosewood fb. solid ash body (amber burst).
3 band eq. 18mm string spacing.

as you said, the tonal characteristics are very similar but I like JPII's 19mm spacing and the sweep mid preamp.
