F/S Vintage G&L L-1000 HOG /maple board

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I have in my possession one sweet wunkay This L-1000 looks to be late '81 early '82, serial B001975, and she is killer.

Mahogany body, maple skunk stripe neck, maple board. No issues at all with the truss or electronics. Natural relicing from use , has a bunch of dings (see the pictures), and there is some discoloration on the corner of the headstock (someone tried to be cool with a cigarette). There are two smallish drill holes on the back of the bass on the upper horn

I have never owned a GandL until this one, and this hog was a wakeup call for me. G&L's are some of the most underrated basses. Now I understand why these basses are so highly regarded here on TB...but I'm probably preaching to the choir on this one!

This bass sounds fantastic, with a deep fundamental, yet it comes through with such clarity. Although its a passive bass, these pickups just shine through the mix. Neck is 1 5/8" and the bass weighs in at a respectable 9.4 lbs., and balances tremendously well...feels lighter. From my understanding this is light for a mahogany G&L.

Asking 850.00 shipping included, for this rare gem, or send me off your best offer...I'm a nice guy... worst I can say is no thanks. I take paypal. Any questions PM or email me. Thanks!

What a beautiful classic. Worth every penny.

(are you sure it isn't a 1980?)

Damn, now you've got me curious...I am not sure if it's a 1980...I went on the website that gives the dates by the serial number, but I know the only real way to date this is by pulling the neck and checking out the date stamped there. I may do this later when I get home from work.

Rather than pull off the neck, just post a close up photo of the pickup. If it's an '80, it will have small allen key holes in the pickup poles. If it's an '81, it will have flathead screwdriver slots, and if it's an '82, it will have large allen key holes.

Other way around. If it's an 80, it'll have LARGE allen key holes. If it's 81/82, it'll have slots. If it's 83 or later it's small (same as current size, if that helps) allen key holes.

That thing's a 1980. I can tell from the existing photos. I've owned several 1980s. In fact, that looks like one I owned. Have to check my photo archive to be sure, tho.....

* sound of iPhoto shuffling......*

*Edit: nope, not one of mine.*

I wouldn't have mentioned it, except the exact year affects the value on these badboys. I know I would pay more (and have done) for a first-year example.

Good luck with the sale.

(and good luck with sellers remorse, which you will undoubtedly suffer from! )

Thanks for the info....given the amount of interest I have had on this bass and the amount of PM's I have received, it must be a fairly rare bird.

Bump for a 1980 model, first year of production. Mahogany bodied L-1000s eat P-basses for dinner!

another identifier would be the triple 0 ser #. Seen on the 1980 first year production L-1000's although ser #'s don't always tell the whole story.
Check your ser # you should have Bxxxxxx (B plus 6 digits) in your mention I see
B plus 7?
Killer looking bass, I'd be all over this one, if I had the cabbage :0

UGHHH...Your right! it's a 6 digit number not seven...I made a typo and didn't realize it...definitely puts it in the 1980 bracket.

Nice big 80 Hex poles! Is that Leo's fingerprint under the D-string? First year L-1000 and a HOG too, nice!
