i have an Alembic Epic 4 string with CoCo Bola top that i am looking to trade for possibly a 5 string of equal or greater value (plus some cash on my part for the right bass) Looking towards Smiths, Sadowsky.... let me know what you have??

Wow. Cocobolo top? I bet that's gorgeous.

Consider trade for an epic 4 with quilted maple top?

sorry not looking for another Alembic, im not feeling the neck i prefer a thinner flatter feeling neck.

It's a beautiful top, but I'm not sure that it's cocobolo. It looks more like one of it's cousin rosewoods. Too brown, the grain is too thin and too common. Cocobolo is generally more spaced out, and more defined. It's possible this is in fact cocobolo, but it's an oddity among them, if it is.

Have you contacted Alembic with the serial number? They can give certainty to the wood.

yeah i gave Alembic the serial and now im just waiting to hear back, not really sure what it is, i was told CocoBolo by the store where i purchased it but now im hearing all different opinions on it lol. i guess Alembic can clear all this up.

I agree, the grain pattern is much tighter than any piece of Cocobolo I ever worked with. My best guess, it's a Bocote top. Bump for a very nice bass indeed!!!

I will be very surprised if you get any information back from them quickly.

I purchased a used Alembic Epic on eBay and it took them almost a year to respond on my serial number info request. Great bass, horrible customer support.
