FEELER Ken Smith 20th Anniversary #1 4-string

Sign in to disble this ad
I love this bass but not as much as my Fodera. Putting it out there before formally listing it since I need to do a little cleaning on the bridge and a couple neck screws, possibly replace the pickup covers (one has a crack on the far side), possibly replace the jack (never dropped a cord on me but it feels looser than other jacks), and of course take more pictures.

This bays plays incredibly and has no issues not mentioned. Cosmetically in great shape, with a little "thumb on neck pickup" corner wear. It include the Smith case and strap.

It's #1 on this page:
Ken Smith Basses, LTD. - BSR "J" Series - Serial Numbers.

$1900 Shipped

Do you have any soundclips or videos? We're so used to hearing Smith's with the soaps, I'm curious how this sounds.

Haven't had the chance to even plug it in in a while, still moving. It does sound a lot like a Ken Smith with soapbars though, at least more so than a Jazz Bass. The preamp and body are pretty pivotal parts of a Smith's sound.

Great Bass!!! I have a 20th BRS-J. Love It. I noticed someone asking about the sound of it. To me it Doesn't sound like a soap bar model at all, THANK GOD!! I hate the sound of the soap bars Ken makes. Very nasally sounding. The J pickups really growl and bite.. Love it.

Here's a link to a short sound file I created of the bass. Both Pickups on, Front only and finally Rear Only. Hope this helps you to sell that beauty.. Wish I could get it... :-(

Nice. Did you use an external preamp, or go straight into the computer?

I had 2 of these at one time. A quilt maple 5 and a lacewood 4, both with jazz pups and the active 3 band eq and they were rally nice. Not sure why I sold them.

Straight into my MacBookPro.. The Pre in the Smith is really nice, with a lot of head room..

Does the pre have the dip switches for selecting the frequency of the 3 bands of EQ?

@GrooveWarrior: i just looked inside of mine, and i'm assuming since these are 20th Anniversary's, they are all the same, No dips for the Mid selecting, just a over all volume adjust. Never really looked that closely in here before, just changed batteries. Very cleanly done, and i seen some rats nest in basses before. Hope that helps.. ;-)
