Feeler - A pair of Carvins

Sign in to disble this ad
I have come to realize that I only really play two or three of my basses and am seriously considering paring down my modest stable. First up are two of my three Carvins.

Here are the specs and a brief description of each:

2004 LB70PF

4 string fretless neck through bass
Koa body sides
Hard Rock Maple neck
Rounded Body Sides
Bridge pickup: HB4 humbucker
Neck pickup: J99 single coil
Individual Piezo pickups in each saddle
Chrome Hardware
Ebony Fingerboard
Tung Oil finish
Hardshell Carvin case

Price new - $ 1122.99

Wonderful fretless with plenty of mwah. I've had it strung with rounds so there is a bit of wear on the fretboard but not much. In fact, I think it sounds better now than when it was new, partly due to "wearing it in" a bit. Plenty of tonal options and the piezos give it a bit of an airy, almost acoustic feel. In retrospect I wish I had ordered it with lines. In fact, if the situation were reversed I'd probably be selling my Stingray and keeping this one. But my intonation just isn't good enough to gig with this bass. Tung oiled Koa is a very soft wood. Still there are only 2 or three small marks on this bass, all on the back and none visible from more than a foot or so away. What looks like a ding on the front between the two pickups and to the left) is actually a knot in the grain.

2006 LB75

5 string neck through bass
Swamp Ash body sides
Hard Rock Maple Neck
Rounded Body Sides
H50N Stacked Humbuckers
Chrome Hardware
Hipshot A bridge w/ string through body setup
Birdseye Maple Fretboard
Hipshot Detuner
Clear Satin Finish
Currently strung E-A-D-G-C but was originally B-E-A-D-G and could be again with no problem
Hardshell Carvin case

Price new - $ 1053.98

This used to be my primary song writing bass, but lately it seems I write on piano a lot more. It has a clear, piano like tone which makes it perfect for chording (especially with the high C) and it sits well in the mix. The swamp ash and maple give it a bright tone and though it currently has nickels on it, it sounds great with stainless strings. The swamp ash and maple are almost identical in coloration and both look great with the Birdseye maple fretboard to give it a very organic look. In great condition with no blemishes that I can see.

Here are a couple photos:

I have gone back and forth about selling these, but I am willing to do so as long as I can sell both (not necessarily to the same person) as I have something specific in mind for the proceeds.

I am asking $525+shipping for each.

A couple things I forgot to mention:

1. I am the original owner of both basses.

2. Both have custom truss rod covers, but I would be willing to replace them with blanks if they sell. Or you could order an engraved TRC from Carvin yourself.

3. Seeing as how I don't play them often, both are in need of a string change.

Gaaa!!! What a nice fretless! (Weeps on keyboard) If i could afford that much for the fretless I would definitely jump on that. Ahh! Curse the the woes of GAS and money eating college gods!!!

Hows the action, any fretbuzz? Is the neck straight?

The necks are both straight and haven't needed a truss rod adjustment for quite a while. The action is set low on the fretless but I like higher than average action on fretted basses. It was set fairly low (with no buzzing) when I bought it and imagine it could be again. If you are interested I could lower the action and adjust the truss rod before sending it if you'd like.

Yes, i'm only interested in the fretted 5. Try lowering the action if you could.
Thanks

binky,

I'd be happy to lower the action and adjust the truss rod tomorrow (I'm swamped with work tonight) if you are seriously thinking of buying the LB75. Otherwise I'd rather not if it means I'll just have to readjust it later. Let me know.

All PMs returned.

Both basses are still for sale.

I lowered the action on the LB75 and adjusted the truss rod. I can get it pretty low with no fret buzz. I play with a heavy touch though, which is why I normally have my action a bit on the high side.
