EDIT:
Here's how this is gonna work. I have two of my greatest 6 string bass loves up for sale- this Yam and my beloved Tune Zi-II 6. Whichever one sell first, the other will stay. Take your pick!
I REALLY REALLY love this bass. Next to my older purple Spector Euro 5, it's my all-time favorite bass. I never thought I could bring myself to sell it, but my reasons for selling simply out-number my reasons for keeping: I have zero projects going on musically and this bass deserves to be played and heard. I have several other basses that I could play. The money would be Very useful. It would make my very-soon-to-be wife happy that I'm selling stuff. And I could go on.
Here's your details:
First Gen Yamaha TRB-6P in transparent orange over Flamed Maple body wing caps w/ a piece of Walnut (??) in the middle.
- 5-piece Maple/Mahogany neck-thru neck.
- Wide and flat (39" radius = basically flat) Ebony 34" scale fingerboard
- Dual truss rods, not the single truss rod version (This = Super nice playability!)
- 19mm spacing at the bridge
- Gold hardware w/ strap locks
- Brass bridge w/ piezos
- Upgraded Lane Poor YAM6 p/ups (includes Bartolini slim Js & original Yamaha slims)
- OHSC in great condition
- I'm not sure of the weight, but this bass ain't for sissies! It took weeks of gradually playing it standing up with a strap for me to be able to do a whole show w/out sitting! That Maple is very solid and so is the tone.
This thing is everything I ever wanted in a bass. It's darn near impossible to find a top quality 34" scale 6 string with 4 string spacing. And the tone is to die for. It's crystal clear w/ plenty of funk, punch, balls, and bark when you want it. And the piezos can be Very useful.
This is a slapper's dream! It's great for jazz or praise and worship situations. I actually used it in a metal/hard rock project for a while! It just works for everything. And the Lane Poors are a HUGE difference over the Barts. They’re hotter while still being quieter and clearer.
I'd rate the bass as an 8.9 out of 10. There are no chips, chunks of finish missing, or major flaws. The only flaws are small clear coat scuffs on the back of the upper horn and on tummy contour. There are also some small lines on the back of the neck on the treble side about halfway down. They can be felt more than they can be seen, BUT they are not felt when playing as they are on the treble side the neck. They do not effect playing. Gold plating on brass bridge has some tarnishing, but not terrible.
I've heard some reports of these having faulty electronics/piezos, but I've had ZERO problems with it. They sound great. Using the piezos in the upper registers gives you a great electric nylon string guitar sound. They’re actually pretty darn useful!

(NOTE: the color is closer to the first pics of the bass when it had the Barts in it.)
Gorgeous grain!:
A stock TRB-6P does $1200-$1400 in this condition. I value the Barts at $150ish and the Lane Poors at $400ish. I'm aiming high, but as mentioned, I'm completely in love with this bass. No Paypal. $1900 $1800 $1750 plus S&H.
EDIT:
Make offers! Prices are (slightly) negotiable.
NEW EDIT: MOONDOGGY SPECIAL!!! This means I will drop the price little by little each week until this sells. I may take a hit. You may get a steal. Either way, this bass must go before I change my mind! So if you're considering this, keep your peak price in mind, but also keep in mind someone else may have a higher price! Enjoy!

The Bartolinis were I guess the typical Bart tone. They were very versatile, but they didn't do any tone very well. In other words, you could get a decent slap tone out of them, but it wasn't as punchy as it could be. You could get some growl from the Barts, but it was still lacking.
The LPs do all that the Barts do X 2. They can get punchier, crisper, and honkier if you want them to. They can still do buttery smooth and mellow as well. And the piezos can be blended in for a whole different type of snap and growl. My ONLY complaint is that the piezos are inherently less in volume than the LPs. I wish Yamaha would've included a separate volume for the mag and piezo pickups. Oh well.
Kevin, I'd love to make a deal with this bass in exchange for a few of your classes!!! I wish you had a NE Ohio location! Improv skills are my biggest downfall. That, and versatility, technicality, theory knowledge, and talent in general!! |

Ok, that is plenty helpful, so thanks to you, Sir.
I have been slamming on a TRB-6 in recent years and have really become interested in the TRB-6P. The only complaint that I still have of my TRB-6 is the internal mids setup. I am just too lazy to open it up and keep tweaking it! I have heard that an OBP-3 really lets the beast out of those basses. In any case, the build on this TRB series is fantastic.
One thing for sure, though, is that when you learn to play a well put together neck-through bass there is a certain creamy feel to the notes - especially the upper register. I spent close to twenty years playing a neck-through Moonstone Eclipse 4 and even though I have been playing bolt-ons for quite a while now, I really do miss the neck-through sound.
As far as the lessons, thanks for the vote of confidence. I have been shooting lots of videos, so I will keep you in the loop when I start to post them.
Bump for this extremely tempting bass!! |

I hope this helps:
Brian at the Low End has a stock TRB-6P for $1500. Buy mine for an extra $250, and your getting the Bartolinis AND the Lane Poors. You're also getting the OHSC. Brian's prices are always fair, so that should be telling you something people!!!
Also, there is ONE of the Bartolini pickups on eBay. The seller is asking $150, which I think is a bit high for only 1, but c'mon TBers. I thought you peeps knew a deal when you saw one!?! No takers? |

If this doesn't go in the next couple weeks, I'm going to gut the Lane Poors, re-install the stock p/ups, and sell the LPs and Barts separately. I'll get more money out of them this way. I'll be asking these prices:
- stock Yamaha w/ OHSC: $1350
- Bartolini Slim Js: $150
- Lane Poor Yam 6s: $400
Thanks TB |

do you know if the Bartolinis are the Humcancelling split coils or Classic Basstone type?
thanks |

| | Registered Loser | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Kent, OH / Altoona, PA | | | I'm guessing they're hum canceling splits, but I'm not certain. Here's what I see:
They are 2-wire p/ups (coaxial lead wire), but the back side has 4 solder terminals. Two are bridged w/ a red wire.
They have written in marker "2/16/01/ BJS" and then some symbol that looks like a 3-legged Pi symbol!
They have etched "96G66J1-B" and "96G66J1-T" into the copper plate.
Sorry I can't give you a definite, but I hope those details help. If they do, please let me know which these are.
Thanks

The Andreas instruments are still for sale. See my signature.
EDIT: the would-be buyer for my Tune 6 string TEXTED me 20 minutes before I was supposed to meet him to do the exchange. He backed out stating that he couldn't find enough information on Tunes and he wasn't sure what he was getting. This was AFTER he played it for an hour consistently saying how much he loved the tone, feel, and looks. Lame.
So, this gorgeous beauty is available again.
