Exclamation Feelers: FS/FT - Hamer Cruise 2-Tek, Peavey Foundation, Squier II w/Fender 57RI PUP

Getting GAS pains, so putting feelers out on a few basses. Note that the Hamer may stay--it's been my main player since I don't remember when, and it has some sentimental value to me. It would take a great trade for me to part with it. Only reason I am considering trade is that I have another Cruise Bass

**I will only ship within the U.S. lower 48.**

Pics will be posted in new posts below. Sorry about my camera skills, but most are ok and show what they need to.

I am open to trades on nice 4-bangers including fretless. I am not particularly interested in a 5er, but if you have something special fire away. Also interested in an Aguilar TH500 or Ampeg PF500. Other lightweight amps considered.

In order below:

Hamer Cruise USA 2-Tek, active Basslines PUs, w/OHSC: For trade only at this time

Peavey Foundation (Super Ferrite pickups!): $225 shipped

Squier II w/Fender '57RI pickup(!): $145 shipped (!!!)

Hamer Cruise Bass USA 2Tek

First up: The mighty Hamer Cruise USA 2-Tek. Extremely sexy redburst w/pearloid pickguard. On a number of occasions when I've opened its case, young women have said "Ooooh! Pretty!"

The bass is in excellent condition for its age. A few dings along the bottom edge--I tried to show the most significant one next to a dime (it is tiny compared to the dime!) There are a few more dings beside that one but nothing you wouldn't expect on a bass this age. Actually, less than you'd probably expect.

Other spot of note is the cigarette burn on the headstock. I'm not the original owner and this was there when I bought it--I am a non-smoker. But I have to say it looks kind of cool--Fender should consider putting cig-burns on their Roadworn series for true mojo

I added the Basslines pickups. These were stock in most of the 5-string versions and seemed to be preferred over the passive duncans. I get compliments on the sound of the bass (and the looks, and the neck) all the time.

Includes original case in very good condition (Excellent interior).

Peavey Foundation: this sports the cult-favorite Super Ferrite pickups. I have owned more expensive basses, but one could make the argument that this sounds as good as any of them. If you've heard one of these, you know what I'm talking about.

Overall the bass is in amazing shape, especially considering it's from (I believe) the late 1980s. I gigged it once and it killed. I made great money WAAAY back in the day with an almost identical bass, and I still see the occasional gigging pro using one of these (or its active cousin, they Dyna Bass).

I have GAS for other stuff, and because I have USA Hamers this doesn't see a lot of action so on the block it goes.

Some light dings but really in remarkable shape. Tone pot gets a bit scratchy on occasion but nothing major--I gigged the bass and it was not an issue. Some of the screws are oxidized on the tops but work work fine. One barrel screw is missing from the G-string bridge saddle, but the bass sets up fine (unless you want to raise the G string up high).

NOTE: Pics later--I just looked at the ones I took and they are too dark. Still, feel free to make an offer in the meantime if you want to tie this up before someone else grabs it.

Finally, the dark horse of my stable--a bass you'd expect to suck but that sounds like a $1000+ bass. No, I am not kidding.

This is a Squier II precision, made in Korea I think sometime in the 90s. I bought it on ebay to have a beater P for those nasty gigs where beer gets on everything and stuff gets stolen out of your car.

First, the ugly: It does have some wear and dings, but overall pretty light. Someone had done a poor job putting black block stickers on the neck--I peeled them off but didn't try to clean off the adhesive that was left behind. You can see it in the pics. The strap button on the horn is held in by a NAIL (***??). It has held up without issue for me, but I recommend the buyer to be less lazy than me and replace it with a screw. 5 minutes, $0.5.

I have adjusted the truss rod and it works, but is not as effective as it seems it should be. I don't know if that's because it's cheap or because its worn. But I got the action to where I want it--which is fairly high on a P-bass. If you want low action, don't buy this. NOTE: I've recently gotten the action down to a medium level. Truly low action probably isn't going to happen without some fret buzz, but I find it quite comfy where it is, and ideal for digging in.

The pots are a bit scratchy. I did play this bass on a gig and had no problems, but if this is going to bug you either spray them out or replace them.

Ok. Now the good:

The neck on this thing is actually excellent. Not as beefy feeling to my hand as most P-basses. I don't have another P to compare to, but based on my experience it feels a little shallower front-to-back. Width feels the same as other P's I've played. I am impressed and pleased, since I usually like a smaller neck.

Now for the secret sauce: I really didn't like the sound when I bought it so I installed a Fender '57RI pickup--the same one that goes into the MIA '57RI Pbass. When I plugged it in I almost...well, let's not get gross. But that pickup is freaking magic. More ballsy and aggressive than a regular MIA or '62RI pickup for uber RAWK power. But with the tone rolled off a bit it sits sweet and thick as honey in a mix. The casing has a little wear on it but not too bad.

If you don't mind cleaning this up, and don't want uber-low action, this is a killer-sounding bass you can have for peanuts. Or part it out and make a little $$$.

I have two Squier II p basses and I have worked on a third for a friend. I have had to shim the neck on all three to get ultra low action on the bridge side. I think it's just a design issue with these basses but it was a very quick fix.
Peanut butter will remove the adhesive residue on the neck. Just wipe on, rub in and wipe off.

3 gems, for sure!

I've been blown away by Peaveys for tonal superiority and monetary minimalism.
The Squier II P bass I had played and sounded as nice as any US P I've played. And if it just needs a polishing, that's super easy. (Never tried peanut butter, but I will next time! GooGone works, too.)
And the Hamer w/2Tek is just SOOOO awesome. Sustain for days!

GLWTS! Nice basses and great prices.
