Seriously now, let's talk about the bass being sold. The earlier, MIJ's were done in nitro, the CIJ's done in poly. Also, the MIJ's had the 'true to the original' big, honkin' ferrules through the body. Not much else different about the actual construction or build quality, it IS, after all a re-issue of the 1951 Precision. Personal opinion here, these basses don't really come alive until you stuff a Duncan SCPB-3 into them, the stock pickups on the three I've had all got changed- YMMV, and no flames please, they just didn't cut it in the live setting/ competeing with an insanely loud guitard.
Here's an interesting sidenote- one of the MIJ's was done in a very authentic blonde. So much so, that the bass actually smelled like an old hardwood floor. Totally stunk up the case, due to the off-gassing of the organic VOC's in the lacquer. The other thing was that the lacquer didn't wear particularly good. Great for that 'relic' thing, but every knock would show. GLWTS.
...and the parenthises? Makes me think SUNN ))))))))))))))))))

"How does compare to the sting bass?"
The '51 is a slab body, and the Sting has the body contours (actually emulating a '56, which was the first year of the contours I believe), and of course the Sting inlay (stinglay) at the 12th fret ... both nice ...
.. and to refrain from further hi-jacking this sellers thread ... AS I AM SURE THIS BASS FOR SALE IS EQUALLY AS NICE ... lots of free rides to the top on this one ... no parenthesis needed | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
