SOLD!!!
This is a 1968 Fender P-Bass that I picked up at a local pawn shop. It was ruined - body had been badly refinished several times and even most of the last "sparkle blue Krylon" paint job that was on it was worn off. Gouges on the body edges, nasty crap hardware on it...just made you want to cry. But "Gentlemen, we can rebuild her. We have the technology."!
Stripped it down and had Pat Wilkins identify the body - scraped out the neck pocket and you can see some markings. There was enough of a sunburst finish left underneath to ascertain that it was the original finish on the bass. Pat and his crew lightly reshaped the body (to get rid of all the edge gouges) and beautifully refinished here in the original burst. I left the neck stock - it just felt too perfect to mess with. You can still make out the 24XXXX serial number on the plate (that's a 68). So here's a rundown: - Body, neck, pickup, neck plate, neck screws, string retainer, and case are original.
- Tuning keys are new Hipshot lollipops (the original Fender lollipop tuning keys are included but one is missing the gear and post)
- Bridge is a new Fender Vintage Series chrome (an old Fender bridge was in the case, but don't think it's original to the bass and it's missing two saddles)
- Bridge cover, pickguard and knobs are from Allparts, Pickup cover is new genuine Fender
- Pots are CTS Vintage style, all cloth wiring, new switchcraft output jack, old cap from another Fender
- Dunlop Straplock buttons added
- New DR Sunbeams 45-100
- One dot marker (12th Fret) replaced (was missing when I got the bass)
The neck is straight, frets have been leveled, new bone nut cut. Truss rod works smoothly, action set medium low (can go lower). Sounds amazing - smooth like butter. Lots of pics below.
SELLING FOR $2500 shipped in the US. International shipping is no problem, just PM for quote.

This one has a nice tight neck pocket and sustain for days. The new owner will dig it.
Thanks for all the compliments guys! Hopefully this will go to someone who can really appreciate it. |
