Fender 1985 MIJ "E-series" P-Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm selling my black Japanese Fender P-Bass - it's sweet, but I literally haven't played it in years, and it needs a new home. It's an '85 "E-series" Made In Japan model, from the year when American Fender production was shut down and they were only building in Japan.

The tuners and bridge have been upgraded, and Felix the Cat could be easily removed if you like (it was on there when I got the bass, and I just left it). Electronics are stock. It's currently tuned down to C, with appropriately-sized strings, and was set up by a professional luthier last time I played it regularly. $500 shipped OBO to the US lower 48.

I have an older rectangular Fender molded hardshell case in decent condition that I would include with this as well.

I'm open to trades. My wishlist includes: Malekko B:Assmaster, Catalinbread SFT (possibly other C'bread stuff as well), MJM Britbender, Devi Ever stuff, various fuzz pedals, Epiphone Jack Casady bass, Danelectro basses, Fender/Squier Bullets, anything vintage and Japanese, or a Korg MicroKorg (or maybe Alesis Micron).

I hadn't noticed before - just looked at it up close in person and it seems like the shadows in the pic are making it look considerably worse than it actually is. I can take a better pic of the backs of the tuners if it's a concern to anyone.

If you decide to split if for the sale, I'll be interested in the neck.

Lots of people would say the same. Quality seems to have been on par or better on the average among the MIJ vs MIA's and consistency has been way stronger from Japan.

That era there was really only MIJ . The bodies varied , either Basswood or Alder . I read somewhere that the ones with knurled saddles were meant for the U.S. and were Alder and the single slot meant for Japan and were Basswood . Great basses either way . I think where this really rings true MIJ > MIA is a little earlier during the CBS years with the JV series being so good and still bring the big $ .

Do you still have the original bridge and tuners?

No, I do not. This is how it came to me, with no extra parts.

There has been some interest in purchasing the bass without tuners or bridge at a somewhat reduced price - that might work for me. Hit me up.

Love my MIJ. If money wasn't so tight right now I'd be right on top of this. Somebody needs to buy this so I don't have to...

Price drop - $500 shipped OBO. Probably will go to eBay before dropping the price any further.
