Fender 2008 MIM "70's Jazz Bass" w/ twisted neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Seeing if there is any interest in this. I bought this last fall from Guitar center, thinking it was in need of a setup. The reality is that it has a twisted neck, and needs the attention of a luthier, at minimum.

By twisted, I mean that there is a hump between 4th and 5th frets on the left side of the fretboard (under the D and G strings). The right side behaves normally. I'll try to get pictures when my wife brings the digital camera home.

All that said, the bass is still playable, with relatively high action. In fact, it's a very good sounding jazz. I just don't want to mess around with a bass that needs work.

My sale price is set as though the neck is essentially worthless. I'm not sure if it's something that can be repaired or not. Would be a shame, though, as it's a nice looking neck.

Asking $300 shipped in the continental US. Willing to consider bass or amp trades. Will ship bass taken apart, and include a nice Fender gig bag.

IS this MIA, MIJ or MIM? What year is it? What does it weigh?

Have you tried taking it back to GC and having them repair/replace? I have a sunburst and it's a hell of a bass!

No - I bought it back in October, and doubt they would take it back (not that I would expect them to).

This one is really a fantastic sounding bass. I wouldn't mind owning another one in the future. Just don't have the time or money to either fix or replace the neck.

I would think it would still be under warranty (1 year usually). Take it back you shouldn't have to take a loss on it.

I live in Albany and happen to enjoy driving. How much to meet locally?

Locally I would say $350 (and I won't take the bass apart). Zip code is 10918.

I bought it used. Thought I was getting a good deal at the time, but it turned out that it was a relatively fair price.

This is the best I can do at the moment. I'll blame it on the fact that my good camera went ot the beach with my wife until Thursday, but the reality is that it is pretty easy to spot with the eye, but harder to see with the camera.

I should note that the twist really only becomes apparent when you try to straighten the neck (I straightened it a fair amount to get these pictures). The bass is playable with higher action, but that action is too high for my taste.

Here's the good side:

And here's the bad side - note the hump between frets 4 and 5

Would this just be a matter of replacing the neck or would there me more involved?

I'm thinking a neck replacement would solve the problem. The rest of the bass is in great shape (including the tuners), and it's a good sounding Jazz.

I just picked up a Traben Array Limited (Spalted Maple) and put a new set of DR Hi-beams on it. Would you be interested in a trade for it?

If not interested in the trade and you still have it next payday maybe we can work something out.

OK - one last price drop. Any lower and it is worth holding on to.

$300 shipped anywhere in the continental US. $275 local pickup
