Yeah, yeah, another Am. Deluxe Precision...whassup with that?
Well, this one has a few dings but is priced accordingly, and comes in a rare teal green finish! Photos make it look blue, but that green teal thing is evident when you see it for real. For pictures, go to: http://gallery.me.com/joebone1
This one is from 1996, when John Suhr ran Fender's custom shop, and uses Suhr-designed electronics that were original to this model until Fender changed up.
Electronics are 9-volt, pickups are a p-bass and a double-j at the bridge. Controls are volume, balance, stacked bass/treble and mids. Body is alder, neck is maple, and this particular fingerboard is a rosewood with gorgeous stripes - I took pictures with the strings off so you can enjoy.
Condition is good, but there are some cosmetic blemishes on the body (hard to see, but they are there) and two dings on the neck (one, up by the headstock, you will never feel). One of the tone knobs is non-original.
This bass plays great, and would work really well in most rock settings.
Asking $740 plus shipping. Will come in a cheesy Fender gigbag, but well-packed.
Willing to ship abroad, if you're willing to pay the freight and deal with all risks.

I may try to get some pictures outdoors at mid-day, if I can manage to be home when the sun is shining strongly. But it is definitely, positively teal. And it's a nice color, which has cured my fear of green basses.

Anyhow, still within the John Suhr-designed period. I think the switch years were 1998, and again in 2002 or 2003, before they finally did away with the double-width j-pickup at the bridge, for the current models.

My favorite bass I ever owned, and the one I kick myself most for getting rid of, was a '97 P deluxe, black, with the pearloid guard. That thing crushed just about every other bass I've ever played in terms of tone, a real monster. If I weren't allocating every available cent right now to a rig makeover, I would gladly hand over the $740, which is frankly a steal. I'd say good luck with the sale, but something tells me you won't need it. |

I'm deeply committed to cutting down to three basses with one or two of them being fivers - and in getting tossed off the island, this one is competing with a Sadowsky R5-24, a Fender CS P/J with nordstrands and ebony board, a great Roscoe Beck V, and a Lakland 4-94 --- that this one has made it so far in such fine company tells you something about how good it is.
