It is a Bartolini 9v active preamp with a stacked tone like Alembic and Fender amps use. If you turn one knob, it affects the other knob settings. I usually have all three knobs at 100% and it gets the Marcus Miller tone. It's very warm, yet crisp highs.
So, if you love tone stacks, then you'll love this bass.
I do not particularly like the tone stack concept. I am in love with the Peavey Cirrus 3 band EQ boost/cut. It works better for my less than Velosa Raptor brain.
So, I am considering switching out the entire system for good ole' passive PUP's and a single tone knob and selling the Barts system separately.
What are your thoughts ?? At this price, I'd buy this bass and do the mods yourself or keep it as it is. Either way, like this present condition, you come out WAY ahead from a price point perspective.
