Due to some financial setbacks, I am selling a one of a kind USA Fender Jazz bass that is in EXCELLENT condition and plays like a dream! I got this in a trade last year and it's been played a handful of times, never gigged, only at home. Some traffic fines and such are forcing me to sell this one since it's the highest value guitar I own.
The GOOD: It is one of the best sounding and best playing basses I have ever owned and I have owned over 20 Fender and Lakland basses. It has superb tone and is dead quiet when not playing! It is light at only 8.8 lbs. The bass is in excellent condition and comes with a genuine fender hard case.
The BAD: I have to sell it. That's the only bad part!
THE FACTS:
(This text is from an email from the original owner to me for the trade...)
It started with my 1995 MIA Fender American Standard Jazz 4, which was black. I got tired of black, so I sent the alder body to Michael Dolan of Dolan Guitars to be stripped and painted "Olympic White Burst". He used to work for Alembic, and the body came back painted absolutely perfect.
Then I shielded the cavities with three coats of Electro-Dag conductive paint, another Alembic-inspired thing. Into the cavities went a new set of SD Antiquity II's. I'm an electrical engineer at Boeing, and this Jazz is wired and soldered as neatly and solidly as you'll ever see them.
I then had Jeannie make me a pickguard of the same material as my Sadowsky PJ-5, which is tortoise. I just like their tortoise color better than anyone elses. It is unique.
Lastly, I had Mike Lull hand-dress the frets, leveling and rounding them. I had him do it by hand, not using his PLEK machine. After I put it all together I had him set it up. I honestly can't remember what strings are on it now, since I'm not a string person, but they're roundwounds with purple silk and still bright and new.
It looks somewhat vintage and sounds quite vintage. I brought it down to BassNW to show it to the staff (years ago) and they were all impressed, saying that it nailed the 60's Jazz tone without any hum.
So, one really great MIA Jazz with rosewood fretboard in excellent condition, with a new-bass smell every time you open the Fender molded case.
