Fender MIM Jazz V

Sign in to disble this ad
This has been refinished, and has an Audere preamp in it. Plays great and sounds great, but it has some issues.

First, the truss rod nut in the neck is stripped, and it appears someone took a drill to the opening to gain access in an attempt to access the nut. But that's not very noticeable. So the sell price reflects the fact that the neck is essentially worthless and will need to be replaced. It's still very playable now, however.

Second, the finish is flawed. Though it looks excellent from several feet, there's some weird checking on the back, and other finish flaws.

I will follow up with more pics to hopefully depict the flaws.

Let's put an asking price of $375 shipped on this.

It seems to be a common problem with the mim jazz v that the truss rod gets stripped. i just picked one a month ago with the same problem.

but bump for a clean look and good pups

... and it's not easy to find replacement necks for these. The buyer should be aware of that.

Forgot to mention, it has Dunlop strap locks. Weighs 10.2 pounds.

Here are three more pictures. I wasn't able to capture in a photo the surface checking on the back. It doesn't look terrible; looks kinda cool actually, but not pristine. The paint chipped near the straplok and some touchup was done, as you can see.

The truss rod NUT typically cracks on these, you might check for that or post a good clear macro photo of the nut and post it, I will chime in aftewards.

Warmoth is now making Fender Standard (20 fret) replacement necks for these so there is not problem finding a replacement. Just FYI as I've been down this road before.

Thanks for that information! I went out to their website and see they have some nice "Standard 5 J Bass" necks in stock.

Here is how you fix it. With an allen wrench loosen the nut counter clock-wise till it spins freely.

Go to Home Depot, get a threaded rod, screw it in to the truss rod channel till it's very tight.

Ram the threaded rod out. The black plastic sleeve inside the truss rod channel will pop out as well as the broken truss rod nut.

Bring the neck to a local guitar shop that is a Fender authorized repair dealer and buy a replacement truss rod nut.

Send me money. Just kidding. This should work and your neck is probably fine.

Macro shots of neck truss rod nut hole

Thanks Doug, for those tips!

So if you, the buyer are able to salvage the neck in the manner described, you've got a bargain. But the selling price reflects the need for a new neck.

I should also mention the only trade I'm interested in is a Carvin SB5000, with a bunch of cash going your way.
