| | | | tossing in my 2 euros worth of opining- re: relic-izing.... necessary? course not. vibey and (potentially) talismanic? yeah, if done right. in my day, levy's jeans cost $5 brand new (1965-ish), and they looked horrible, stiff and cartoony-blue till that one big day when they were just.. right. fading into the right color, fitting right, shrinking up a bit, cool-factor in place.... we waited a month or 2 for that, and wore them constantly to live in 'em and get them to that place. 40 years later we have pre-stressed and pre-torn... do they look as good as the traditional way? sorta. do they have that mojo? not really... you can always tell, on some level... so, relics can look good and impart a certain thing, but.. ragged beauty is in the eye of the beholden, i guess..

If you have nothing to say, or an offer, either stay away or just observe.
Free bump for an awesome bass!

0 | I could have sworn this was a for sale thread, not a bash on somebodys instrument thread. you arent buying it, so you dont have to worry about what it looks like. Delete your posts, please. if you want to argue, or talk about how stupid somebodys instrument is, you are really in the wrong place. |

The member who has this for sale is a really stand up member of this board and keeps his equipment in tip top shape. I just bought a very nice bass from him this week and have played a couple of his others with his band in New Orleans and they have all been very nice basses as I'm sure this one is also. If you don't like relic basses move it to the bass thread and fire away.
Dissing his bass is in very poor taste. Take it somewhere else!
Robert, Good luck with this sale! |

While relic basses aren't really my thing, this bass is very tastefully relic'd and I would much rather buy and play this one of a kind relic, rather than one of the roadworn series Fender is pushing.

Ive always really taken care of my instruments, and there is always an underlying feeling of worry about getting it bumped ( not in a neurotic way, its just always there). Im fortunate to play about 30-35 hrs of live music a week, and I do PLAY every bass I own (even my mint Original 75 Jazz), but some of my basses (Sadowsky's, Nordy's) I worry about and play with kid gloves, always watching closely to not hit or bump. Beat up basses have there place.
I do wish for everyone to have that deep, true love of an instrument that lasts a lifetime, but sometimes that doesnt happen early enough in your career to give you that naturally reliced instrument. For me...its not about being a poser, Its about playing a nice well worn comfortable bass....Now, someone buy this. You wont believe how good it feels and sounds...its Phat and THUMPIN.

Anyway - bump. Very cool bass for short money. Just the fact this is coming from a playa down in NOLA is making me want to pull the trigger on it. Love that city. Say hi to Johnny Sketch for me. |
