I got a fender I liked in a trade some months ago.
Fender power Jazz, made in Japan, serial no#: E109153
Plays excellent, low action, frets in good shape, maple neck, a few smaller blemishes here and there, nothing too unsightly.
Easy to funk with, slap, or just sit back and groove.
A black purple color, more black than anything. Black side and back.
Has a single 9v in the rear, actives.
I have a rule of only so many basses laying around, so this one will have to go, I'll post pics later tonight. Comes with nice gig bag. Ship actual cost
425$

There is a slight blemish in the under coat color on one side, not noticable too much, but if you are after a perfect finish, then this is not your bass. Top coat is done fairly well.
They put a rather cool look to the front, but honestly, the bass looks all black most of the time, I tweaked the pic to high light the purple color. the side and rear are jet black. the body was painted only, the neck appears to be original and well matured.
No, no plastic on the PU's, looks like some light finish lacquer to me, does not affect the playing. Finish is not perfect around the PU's, so that's my guess, I obviously do not have the life history of this bass. I can tell folks only what I know and like about the bass.
If it where not the harem rule limitation, I'd just as soon keep it.
It's one of the few I've found over the years I actually liked, that's hard for me to say. Neck feels more solid, much like the american made versions.
Barts + badass bridge would be a a good project idea for this instrument. If you look here and elsewhere for used, spare Bart PU's, then you might be able to change them out for cheap.
If I where keeping it, I'd be on the look out for those items for sale. If you want the stock bridge and PU's no sweat, they should more than do the job you expect but those are my personal preferences. Not taking anything away from a stock Jazz or P bass.
