Fender Road Worn Jazz bass. This bass started out as a handpicked bass out of numerous Road Worns. The neck profile is dead on the same as my real '62, super straight and very low action. The bass is very resonant. Weight is exactly 9 lbs, same as my '62. I treated the fingerboard numerous times with fingerboard conditioner and that helped immensely in warming up the tone and darkened up the rosewood very nicely. The electronics were upgraded with Fender Custom Shop pickups from the late 1990's. Since these basses come with absolutely no shielding, Fender reissue shielding for both pickups and control cavity were installed along with the cloth wiring(notice the ground strap between the bridge and bridge pickup). Also the tone capacitor was changed out to a .05 Fender style ceramic capacitor. Pots were left alone since they were solid shaft CTS 250k pots. I also added a strap button to the back of the headstock to give it more of that vintage look.
I've owned numerous Custom Shop and Fullerton Reissues and this bass is better than any of them. I went through numerous pickups(Lindy Fralin, Vintage Vibe, Antiquity II's, and Nordstrand NJ4's) trying to replicate the tone of my real '62. The Custom Shop pickups came the closest in tone to my real '62. This bass would make an excellent back up for me, but for $ reasons I need to sell it to finance a Ken Smith I just committed to.
For $845 shipped, this bass is a bargain for anyone wanting a vintage style Jazz, especially one given the attention that this bass has had. Includes a Fender gig bag in like new condition. For an additional $25 I can install a reproduction L series neck plate.
