Fender USA P bass '57 RI, trans blonde/white

I got this in trade just a month ago, and I love it to pieces, but I seriously need to pay some bills--and my other fretted basses are not worth much for resale.

Pics from a previous owner:

More: http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/s...er/57%20pbass/

I'll take any new photos you'd like to see, just let me know. But the condition has not changed at all from those pics.

It weighs only 8.25 lbs! The grain of both the body and neck wood is beautiful, and the "vintage tint" on the neck is very nice. The nut is 1.75", C width. It's all stock. Aside from some general very mild play wear, the only defect is a chip in the paint next to the neck pocket, shown in one of the photos above. I gotta tell you, the tone from this bass is the most satisfying and versatile sound you could ever hope for from a P bass. With the tone knob up, it is grindy and snarly. With the tone knob down, it is fat and rich. With the tone halfway, it combines the two fantastically. Best passive tone knob response of any bass I've ever picked up. It comes with the tweed hard case and all case candy.

The price is $1100, firm. I know people always say "firm" and then they drop the price a week later, and then again a week after that--but I honestly like this bass so much that I'd rather keep it than sell it for a penny less. FWIW it actually cost me more than that, taking into account how much I paid for the basses that I traded toward it. The $1100 includes shipping in the US; I'll ship almost anywhere, so just PM me for an international price quote.

Because I'm only selling it for want of money, I'm not looking for any trades. However you never know what might pique my interest, so let's say I'll consider trades for up to half the value of the bass; i.e. a deal where I get a minimum of $550 cash on top of the trade. I'm ultra picky though, so please don't be surprised or offended if I decline a trade offer. Here are some things I'd particularly be interested in:
--Compressors I haven't reviewed yet (see this list: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/wanttotry.shtml )
--ACG/East filter preamp
--Tronographic Rusty Box
--Kahler 5-string Whammy bridge

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks!

Sweet! That's the nicest "see-the-grain" example I've ever seen on these. I used to have one, but mine wasn't nearly as transparent as this one. Beautiful...

She's a beauty for sure. I used to own this bass and I can tell you the grain is even more striking in person. It is also the lightest bass that I have ever owned.

Just a silly question : Do you know why the thumbrest in most vintage or RI basses are UNDER the strings ? I never catched the idea on how using it ...

At the time, many bassists played using their thumb, or a pick, instead of the modern fingerstyle. The thing there is a "tug bar" for your other fingers, not a thumb rest.

Thanks & of course... I thought about that but found the position a bit high then. Anyway, one must play in a VERY vintage band to use his thumb enough to need the other fingers to rest !

Free bump for a great looking bass. Good luck, it sucks to need money. I'm very familiar with that, unfortunately.
