Background

In June of 2009, I took delivery of this custom Clement bass. Tom Clement is a great guy and is truly a pleasure to work with in designing a custom instrument. Soon after, I relocated, packing up my home studio, synths, and basses. I had played this Clement only several times by then.

Until the last few months, I played it only rarely. Ironically, in that time I have finally discovered the true excellence of the instrument. In mid-October, I posted about it at Club Clement:
"I just wanted to share with you a great experience I had yesterday: last night I finally discovered the soul of Clement #140. What a voice it has, and so much soul.

You may know that I wrestle with music making. One day I'm in, the next week I'm out. Rinse, repeat. But the tools keep pulling me back into it. These days, that means old tubes and old amps that get me playing the bass guitars (old and new.)

Clement #140 had been creeping up on me. When I played it, I recalled playing the two custom 6-string Tobias basses I owned years ago. I realized that I needed to get past the technical nature of the 6-string format and just... well, just play the mess out of it, the way I would my old P Bass.

Last night it all clicked. As I played Clement #140 through my hot rod 1973 Fender Vibro Champ, I started making beautiful sounds and soulful music. And I forgot what bass I was playing and how many strings it had.

Now that I think of it, I also forgot about my earlier regret that I chose Nordstrand Big Split pickups instead of Big Single ones. I wasn't missing any rawness or tactile relationship with the sound. Just fantastic.

So once again, I thank you for an excellent instrument, Tom. Keep up the good work, Man!"
So why am I selling this bass? Though I like playing 6-string bass, I am not a dedicated 6-string player, and I cannot justify having yet another fine, beautiful instrument waiting for play time. I sell and sell, but I still have too many bass guitars! This Clement needs another good home, where it will be played more often.

Value Proposition

This Clement bass is beautiful, very playable, and very musical and soulful-sounding. When played more lightly, it sounds sweet and precise. But the more you dig in to it, the more soulful and raw it sounds, while still retaining its sonority and sweetness.

I think it has something to do with excellently crafted swamp ash, maple, Indian rosewood, and redwood singing through elemental passive electronics and superfine, big-ass alnico magnet pickups.

Though I describe this bass as being in near mint condition, it really is somewhere between near mint and like new. Custom for me, and unique for you, this 6-string Clement can be yours without the wait for a fine, custom, handmade instrument.

This sale will be final. If you have any concerns about this custom Clement 6-string bass, ask me before you buy it, because once you buy it from me I will not accept it back for a refund.

Thanks for looking.

Tom does absolutely amazing work.

If my 6 were a 4, it wouldn't have gone anywhere!

Good luck with the sale!

Happy New Year, MD!

I agree. And I guess I could try omitting the two "extra" strings on this Clement and play it as a 4-string; but that's a little nutty. And the word "denial" comes to mind.

Thanks for your good wishes.

Best,

Snaxster
