FS: Very Clean 1961 Fender Precision Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale: 1961 Fender Precision Bass in excellent, all-original (except for the nut) condition for $8500 plus shipping. Includes original case and pickup and bridge covers, which are bright and shiny. Slab fretboard; the truss-rod nut is virtually flush with the butt of the neck. The back of the neck has a few superficial scratches but nothing deep or bothersome. (One ding was drop-filled with lacquer by Mike Lull, which left a small (less than dime-sized) area of discoloration. It's noticeable only on inspection.) The body has some worming and a small area of rash, but nothing through the finish to the wood. There is one 1/4-inch ding down to the wood on the upper horn near the strap pin. The pickguard has shrunk at the top two "prongs" but there are no cracks to the guard. The sunburst finish remains vibrant. Serial number is 60923. Weight is 8 pounds 7 ounces (without the covers). Overall, this bass is very clean for a 50-year-old instrument.

I can take additional photos of the butt of the neck, the pots, or anything else if there are serious inquiries.

Photos for Smelt. These are high-res pics, so you'll have to click on each one for full resolution -- maybe even twice.

Thanks for the compliments. I probably shouldn't play this bass later today because I'll change my mind about selling!

Wow! That headstock/logo looks brand new; are you sure that's all original?

Yes, it's all original except for the nut. I bought it from a non-bassist who got it from the original owner, who didn't play much.

Thats amazing. Whoever owns it should be honored, might be the best (not in a museum) '61 P in existence.

Hows the chrome on the 'hubcaps'?

Thanks. I just looked at the covers: they are bright and shiny. I don't think the bass was played with the covers on.
