FS: 1962 Framus 5/149 Star Bass - An Original Classic!

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a vintage 1962 Framus Star Bass Model 5/149.

I have kept this bass around to remind me of where it all began for me as a bassist. I had one very similar to this when I was 15 years old. This one is in good condition for it's age and is totally playable up to the 12th fret. There is some buzzing above the 12th fret but I'm sure it could be resolved with a little fret work.

This is as much a collectable bass as it is a playable bass. It actually sounds really good and the four position pickup/tone selector gives it four very distinctive and different voices.

It's a 30" scale and weighs a mere 4 lbs 11 oz. It's easy to see why it was so popular in Europe in the 1960's with bassists like Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. A featherweight instrument with a surprisingly big sound!

Here is a link to some more specs on this wonderful old bass:

http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules...ellID=81&cl=EN

Temporary Price Reduction to $500.00 plus shippng in the CONUS. This price is only good through Thursday, August 5th!

I don't have a case but I will wrap it completely in bubble wrap before putting in a sturdy box with additional foam and packing peanuts.

This is your chance to own a rather rare piece of history that you can also play!

Here is a shot of my daughter Jasmine with this old Framus. She actually played it on several of her songs. If you are interested you can hear her music at this link:

And now for the regular shots........................

spencer is this the model that the pickup is connected with the pickguard ? that the whole electronic packages comes off and leaves just an acoustic instrument, if so, a bass player buddy of mine has one of these, so much fun to play. I made him promise to make sure I get it in his will.

Yep, all the electronics (pickup, controls & jack) are attached to the chrome pickguard. If you removed it, then it would be a totally acoustic instrument.

It is fun to play. I'm always astounded as to how good it sounds when I play it through one of my Eden rigs. I have this one strung with a short scale set of half wound strings that give the bass just the right tonal balance.

Wow... two beauties. The young lady made me think of one of my favorite singers from days gone by - Yvonne Elliman. I hope that you both take that as a very complimentary comment. Yvonne was and is a very lovely lady.

The Framus is sweet and looks in great shape. Wish I could justify adding another bass to my little grouping.

Thanks, I totally agree about Jasmine. She has been playing guitar for 3 years now and has written over 50 songs. That's more than I wrote in my 45 year career as a professional musician. I think great things are in store for her.............(as spoken by a proud Papa)

That is a compliment and I do remember Yvonne Elliman. Wasn't she in Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway? Beautiful lady for sure and she had a killer voice.

I appreciate the nice comments............

If this bass was the StarBass DeLuxe Model 5/150 (2 p/u version) I would be its new owner.

Sorry, but for me it's gotta be a 5/150.

Good luck!!

Yeah the DeLuxe was a very cool bass. I have never come across one of those. I have just seen photos. I would love to hear what the sound/tone difference is with two pickups on one of these. Sorry I couldn't help you out!

Man, this thing is so freaking COOL! The only cooler Star bass I've ever seen was this same model, but in Zebrawood. Wish I wasn't so broke.

I'm leaving town on Friday the 6th. Between now and then I'm lowering the price on this antique to and even $500.00 plus shipping. After Thursday the price goes back up and I'll be putting it on Ebay when I get back.
