Hi Folks,
Here's one from my stash of weirdo basses - which I do love!!
This is an early early Vox instrument, made before production was shifted to Italy and probably pre-dating the Phantom and teardrop guitars that made Vox famous as an instrument manufacturer too.
The bass has had a bit of work done to it, to bring it back to full playing condition. The only non-original hardware is the tuners, though three of the original tuners are included.
Super lightweight - boomy sounding with flatwounds and two cool Vox pickups.
I wrote a post on my blog about it and detailing the work that I did on it: http://guitargarage.blogspot.com/200...ster-bass.html
Asking $350 plus shipping for it, with a gig bag.
Thanks!! |

| | | | Ah, what a sweet bass! If I saw this yesterday I would definitely have snagged it, but I just put a $350 eBay bid on a Sekova hollow body.
I know your tag says 'FS', but would you be willing to trade for a Vox Apollo/Sidewinder? It's missing a number of original parts - like the pad on the back, the G-tuner, boost, distortion, and neck, ha! - but it has the original pickup and pots and sounds pretty sweet. A restoration job for sure, but would be worth more...I bought mine for $300. |

And as you accurately surmised - looking for a straight sale on this pretty little bass.
I do have a basket case Sekova solid body bass somewhere - hmmm - has the same crazy headstock as the 6-pickup "Grecian" guitar (got one of those too!!). Quote:

| | | | Well it has a neck, it's just not the original!
All right guitargarage, not to hijack your sale here, but maybe you can help me out and I'll throw some cash your way if you have the right guitar in your garage.
I'm on the hunt for my perfect set-up - I want a nice big boomy, 60s & 70s sound that can still articulate when I'm trying to get 'fancy' (think 'Paperback Writer'). I found the right amp - I have a couple Acoustic rigs running through an 18 and 15s - but I still haven't found the right guitar.
I'm looking for a boomy, hollowbody sound with massive thump and just enough in the highs - I tend to scoop my high mids out. Kind of like a Rickenbacker sound, I guess? I get great tone out of my Vox, but only between the 5th and 12th frets (or thereabouts). It also feeds back too much, the pickup has become microphonic, I occasionally run into intonation problems, and I wish it would stay in tune better.
Next I got a new Lakland Duck Dunn P-bass, because I figured I'd get great, modern balance with a nice vintage tone. And it delivers - but it's just too 'smoooth', and I found that I really prefer playing short-scale bass with fast-decaying notes.
So I put a bid on a Sekova on eBay because it looks great and I liked what I heard of it being played live - but after reading a review of the bass I'm afraid I'll run into the same tuning and balance problems I have with my Vox.
So do you have any dusty old pieces in your garage, any Frankenstein projects that could satisfy what I'm yearning for? I plan on selling my Duck Dunn to finance my next venture. Also, if someone outbids me on that Sekova I'll probably be sending you a PM about your Bassmaster... |
