Up for sale is a 1972 Lake Placid Blue Fender Jazz with Alder body and Rosewood fretboard with block inlays.
The serial number is 366575. The neck is stamped March 1972 and the pots read 304-7107 (stackpole 07 week of 71).
The body was professionally refinished in Lake Placid Blue. The paint job is flawless on this bass, it was really well done.
From talking to some of the previous owners, I found out some additional information. But note, this information has not been verified so take it as that.
One of the previous owners said the bass had been stripped from the owner before that. This owner found LPB on the body somewhere. The bass was then refinished using the same DuPont paint that Fender used. So again, this has not been verified but I figure I share it anyway. Plus you can see how well it was refinished from the photos.
At some point the bass was professionally re-fretted. Who ever did it did an amazing job. I’ve never played a Fender in which I can get the action so low like on this bass! It plays incredible!
One thing to note, as a result of the refret there are cracks in the binding at the frets. I’ve been told this is common on re-frets with necks with binding. Most of the cracks feel like they are under the finish and nothing is loose. The binding is still well preserved under the neck finish.
Everything else on the bass is original except for the pickup covers which are from the late 70’s.
The bass was extremely well taken care of over the years. There is very little tarnishing on the hardware and the pots operate noise free.
Sound wise, this sounds like a 70’s Jazz! Classic Fender sound (check out the video link). Great slapping bass too!
Weight wise she is around the 9 lb mark.
Included is a G&B softside case and a extra tort pickguard.
On to the photos:
Here is a video with me playing the bass. I am plugged into a GK MB212.
