FS 1973 Fender Jazz all original! Perfect Neck!

Sign in to disble this ad
All original down to the pickups and pots. swamp ash body, weight 9 pounds. The neck and fingerboard are almost like a time machine, perfect condition. Brian at the lowend can vouch for the playability and tone of this jazz bass. Some have it, some don't this one does. Will take more detailed pictures for people of serious interest. The neck stamp and serial numbers are all there. OHSC as well. Killer bridge pickup bark, nice slap tone. Best playing jazz I've ever had. Conditions is great for a 35 year old bass, gentle body wear. Simply playing upright and sax these days.
NO TRADES!
Paypal is cool.
$3200 shipped in US which is a lot less than I paid for the beauty.

I posted this yesterday and somehow the thread got closed. Hence this repost.

Beautiful bass! It does have some grain that looks like ash..but I've seen alder that looks a bit like ash before.

If its ash I may be in trouble Any good grain come through on the back?

I'm not 100% sure on the body wood to be 100% honest. I assumed it was alder because of the weight. The grain is one of those could go either way. I"m almost positive Brian at thelowend.net told me alder.

I think you're most likely right ..that the weight tips it in favor of alder. But it still *could* be a lighter piece of ash ? Anything show on the back?

I've been blowing up the pic here trying to make a call on it . I usually can make the call pretty fast but this one is a bit more elusive

Any refret? or fret dresses that you know of in its history?

Do you know if any of the pups are rewound or are they original winds?

Thanks!

I have no knowledge if the pickups have been rewound. New frets or a fret dress would make sense considering they have very little wear, but then again the entire neck and fingerboard have little wear. I'm guessing at least a dressing to get the action so nice.

I'm thinking it's alder... if so, then I'm in trouble

I'm no expert, but I 'm guessing its Ash, based on the 'swoosh' where the right arm usually rests.

A 1973 that still plays that well and shows no wear on the frets yet? I'd say minimum that it's had some attention paid to the frets by a skilled someone. Frets just don't stay nice that long otherwise. "Low action" and "plays well" and "no fret wear" for a '73 says to me the frets have been dressed if not outright replaced IMO.

Look at the color and uniformity of the fretboard compared to the headstock. It appears to have been refretted. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

This looks like one excellent specimen, regardless. I wish I had the cash.
